This is certainly hurting 007, Mockingjay & Star Wars...

Dollar gained a lot against most currencies in the last two weeks...

The Dollar has remained at a constant 7/8 year high versus the Yen all year (slight uptick on the high end of the yearly average this week).

So, in Yen, Episode VII will have to more or less surpass Episode I's total in Japan if it's to have any hope of reaching $100 million. It's doable... but most likely not happening. And if it finishes with a comparable total as Episode's II and III, then it's only going to gross $70-80 million due to the exchange rate.

007 isn't too popular in the market, so it won't have as much of an effect on it (a possible $25/30 million total might become ~$20 million). And The Hunger Games franchise barley registers Japan, so it certainly won't be affected (a $7 million finish would just become a $6 million total or something).

Since the beginning of the year (Trump presidency?) the US-$ lost some 12 % in value compared to the Euro...

That's great news for US studios as a $100m European gross from January is now $112m...

I don't know if the same devaluation is true for other exchange rates as well...

Expect more money coming out of Europe as the Euro hit a three-year-high against the US-$ ($1.25)

(On the other hand, the US studios keep producing movies for Asia & Latin America while genres popular in Europe are being neglected...)

What genres are more popular in Europe vs. Asia?

Less World-End-Scenarios, more star driven dramas or comedies...

Ok yes that makes sense. I'm sure most of us are in the same boat.

I'm hoping TheNumbers or Mojo can build an algorithm that will adjust international grosses using real time exchange rates.
