Thought monday would be a stronger day in general. Are there not a lot of people with the day off on mon/tue this year or something?

pookpooi wrote: Do you think Conan can outgross one-piece red? I highly doubt it. It's hard to compare it to past Conan films since it's performing much higher than them, but I don't see anything suggesting it's going to make a run at ¥20 billion. That said, that's a mark that doesn't really become a possibly until later in a run (unless you're Demon Slayer), so can't exactly rule it out completely yet either. Conan usually slows down after Golden Week, so the first week out of it should give us an idea of where it might be going. It's probably on track for ¥13/14 billion, pretty dang crazy to think Conan has grown this much, which was the target if it had comparable legs to its predecessors in recent years. JustLurking wrote: Thought monday would be a stronger day in general. Are there not a lot of people with the day off on mon/tue this year or something? Well, Monday isn't a holiday, so it's a normal day for anyone with a job (except maybe some that give their employees the full Golden Week off). But it's looking strong to me. Loads of weekly increases, some over 100/200% vs last Monday, thanks to no school and being a discount day. The day will likely stay consistently steady, too, since it's getting the benefit of there being no school in the morning/afternoon, and then it'll get people getting off work later in the evening too. I can see most films doubling up where they are right now (2:30p). Conan has already matched its past Friday admissions, and Mario is going to beat its opening day Friday. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (all national holidays) will be the big days of the week and probably be comparable to this past Saturday and Sunday, especially Wednesday.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Chart Updates; Golden Week Begins; Mar
Excellent. Down a little from estimates, but it's still just as impressive really.
-11th Biggest Opening Weekend (3-Day) of All Time. -9th Biggest Opening Weekend (3-Day) for an Animated Film. -4th Biggest Opening Weekend (3-Day) for a Hollywood/Imported Film. -2nd Biggest Opening Weekend in April.
Have you seen any admissions released yet? I want to wait to update the charts again until we get those. The lack of updates so far today might be a sign numbers are going to be delayed due to Golden Week. Hopefully not past Tuesday, because nothing will come out from Wednesday on since it's 3-consecutive national holidays at that point and then the weekend.
I was also wanting to do Daily Estimates for the Top 5 for Golden Week, but I may have to hold off. Doing estimates based on weekend estimates is a little annoying and can be inaccurate, so don't want to do that. Especially for Mario since we don't have an average ticket price to go off of yet.

Admission have not been reported yet. It's still 1.3M+ I believe. Today everything seems weird going on. Toei reported SLAM DUNK admission (9.398M admits) instead of Box Office. Well, let's see what will be reported if Writer Updates early morning.
Tokyo Revengers - ¥1.175B (870K admits)

Re: Japan Box-Office: Chart Updates; Golden Week Begins; Mar
Yeah, it's the holiday period. Probably going to come down to which studios are in the office on Monday and Tuesday this week in which numbers we get reported. Monday and Tuesday aren't technically holidays and some/most businesses are open, but they're sandwiched between this past holiday weekend and then the three holidays on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, so some would have taken the full week off.
Probably going to get a patchwork of reported figures from the weekend.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Chart Updates; Golden Week Begins; Mar
Thanks for sharing! Much easier than seeing where they pop up today/tomorrow. Hope Toho releases their figures.
And somewhat high avg. ticket price for Super Mario (¥1444). I also noticed it's not slowing down in the evening, so combined with its avg. ticket price, it's not skewing very young which is should be good for its legs.

*3-Day Weekend (2023-Present)
At this rate, The First Slam Dunk isn't just going to outgross Top Gun: Maverick but also Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to become the 3rd Highest Grossing Film of 2022. It's basically locked up, really. Might surpass both after Golden Week is over (I noticed it was given more seating back going into Monday).
I think Suzume may be out of reach for it to climb to #2 of 2022, especially since Suzume is still adding to its total and is very close to resurfacing back inside the Top 10 again in its 25th weekend (it'll benefit from having its end date, May 27th, also announced ahead of Golden Week to generate that "last chance" boost).
But sheesh, what a performance The First Slam Dunk is having, especially over its latter half weekends so far in its run.
Lastly, THREE films from 2022 made this chart. Crazy. Suzume is probably on it too, giving 2022 FOUR entries on the chart, but no weekend data was available for it. Sigh. (Could estimate if that's something people want.) RRR 42M 2-days & 50,966,200 3-days. Some other weekend will also be in all-time list.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Chart Updates; Golden Week Begins; Mar
Very strong opening (4th biggest ever for Hollywood) for Super Mario. Fourth Biggest 3rd Weekend ever for Conan there, and third highest running total ever. Almost a record breaking 22nd Weekend for Slam Dunk. Glad we got a Suzume weekend figure, it'll rank on the 25th Weekend Chart. RRR still adding to its very impressive run after 28 weeks. (Thanks Charlie for its 22nd weekend figure up there!)
All sorts of good news at the box office right now. Lots of charts coming up today.

Re: Japan Box-Office: Chart Updates; Golden Week Begins; Mar
Doraemon comeback is really satisfying for me. I was worried if it Box Office pull has declined at the level of Pokemon/Yokai Watch.
Well, I wonder how would Shin Chan 3D will do on August

Re: Japan Box-Office: Biggest Twenty Eighth Weekends
Biggest Twenty-Eighth Weekends (2000-):
¥49.8 million ($0.4 million), -18%, ¥24.57 billion ($232.6 million) - Your Name. (2016) ¥35.2 million ($0.3 million), +24%, ¥1.85 billion ($13.9 million) - RRR (2022)* ¥25.9 million ($0.2 million), -29%, ¥39.78 billion ($380.2 million) - Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (2020)
*3-Day Weekend (2023-Present)
RRR joins a very exclusive list here as only the third entry on the Biggest 28th Weekend Chart. There's either no weekend data available for the only few other films that could be on this list, or they had recently ended their runs. Its total is obviously far below films typically on these latter weekend charts, but it's been extraordinarily consistent since it opened back in October.

I'll go back and add the weekends I missed in a later post. None of its weeks have been exactly impressive on their own (but for an Indian film, definitely so) ever since it opened back in October, but it's these consistent weeks every single week that's putting it on the Biggest 20th+ Weekend Charts now. Very unique (and super impressive) performance.
