Suzume's Locking-Up
China - $50M &Korea - $6.1M
Should be $58M WW Weekend depending on Holdovers.
Biggest WW Weekend for a Japanese Release!!

I was gonna say Slam Dunk is the highest grossing sports film in Japan, and then I remember Tokyo Olympiad (1965)...
Anyway, it has a chance to become the highest grossing basketball film worldwide if it exceed $230.6M of Space Jam. Need $100M more.

It's really weird how Shinkai became the new Miyazaki.

Let's have an objective view on the definition of Miyazaki, if Miyazaki was the director of the highest grossing film ever in Japan, then the new Miyazaki should be the Demon Slayer's director? Sadly no one can remember his name.

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (03/03-05); Charts Update
Sotozaki does not have a large influence in DS like Shinkai or Miyazaki have over their works so there isn't really anything much to say about him to be honest. Sort of like MCU directors vs James Cameron so to speak. Most of the biggest moments in the series aren't even by him.
I am not sure why we have to crown a "new miyazaki" but if you want to go there, it would probably be an original film director that is consistently on top of the japanese BO.

The new Miyazaki is the old Miyazaki, since he is still making and releasing films.

Thanks, that's pretty impressive, I would guess the new season has recouped it's cost without even starting the broadcast!

Re: Japan Box-Office: WKND Actuals (03/03-05); Charts Update
So... I've been out with a God awful case of COVID, my first time. The sickest I've ever felt in my life, and there's not really a symptom that has missed me. Sweating through clothes from fevers or cold chills, cant taste anything, leg muscles feel like they run a marathon every day, and the most painful sore throat I can ever recall.
I've been home for 2 weeks, and I'm still nowhere near feeling better. I'm as bad today as I was 2-3 weeks ago. So... I don't know when I'll get back here, and appreciate anyone who has posted updates, wants to update the charts, etc., and I strongly encourage it because I don't know how long this is going to last.

 Re: Japan Box-Office: Health Update
I wish I was busy. My daily routine has become: Struggling to get up, finding the strength to shower, force myself to eat (no appetite, little/no taste makes eating a pain), and keep taking meds every 4-6 hours until bedtime. It's been miserable with no improvements. The only thing I really feel like doing is just watching TV. Even reading or video games drains the energy I have.
So, yeah, if you guys sort of want to "takeover" the thread by updating charts, feel free to do so. I really doubt I'll be up to it anytime soon.

I got covid back in early Feb. It sucked. Felt like I was late to a party. Symptons weren't as bad as yours though, just got hit the unending fatigue and sore throat.
