@Corpse, Do you still think Demon Slayer 6th weekend will be the best 6th weekend ever ? Because I'm starting to doubt it

I haven't seen anything about restrictions on cinemas. It wouldn't be surprising if they do go back to 50% capacity in the near future, but so far, haven't read that. But I just got back from my travel and haven't checked into it yet.

Just wanted to log back on quickly and say that Sunday is, as expected, looking great. Estimating...40% or so more in reservations versus Saturday. Not predicting a 40% increase over Saturday, but it's possible since the evening showings will be stronger than usual because of the holiday Monday. Whether or not it beats HP1's record 6th weekend (over New Year) and staying above ¥1 billion depends on what happens today. Interestingly, I'd say a 35-40% bump is required.

Also, did the Japanese government ever close cinemas? Because if cinemas were closed in March or whenever they were, I think they should probably close them right now. I don't think this would hinder the movie in the long run anyway.

They closed back in late-March/early-April and began reopening in mid-May (~8 weeks later). Then in mid-June, all theaters reopened at 25% capacity. And in mid-July, they all expanded to 50% capacity. Wave 2 of the virus began in July, but theaters remained opened at 50% capacity. Then as cases dropped, they fully lifted restrictions in mid-September.

Aeon Cinemas, the largest chain, decided to stay at 50% capacity, but everyone else has worked to get back to 100%. For the most part, besides Aeon, all chains are 100% on the weekends (but food is not allowed on the weekends as a result to follow guidelines) and 50% on the weekdays with the exception of some of the busier locations.

There haven't been any reported clusters at movie theaters so far. To get inside a theater in Japan, you must have your temperature checked at the door, and you must wear a mask at all times with no exceptions unless while eating at the 50% capacity showings only. And the 50% capacity showings are checkerboard pattern, meaning no one, families and couples alike, can sit side-by-side or front-to-back.

The numbers are already strong this morning (already an increase of 39% compared to yesterday) and considering that tonight the numbers will be strong due to Monday's holiday, I expect a big Sunday, what do you think ?

What have I said regarding this Sunday over the past few days? ;)

Sundays before holiday Mondays are always really strong. Demon Slayer has a sell-rate of 48% already this morning, and that's almost certainly going to get over 50%, possibly closer to 60%, for the better half of the day. And it won't slow down nearly as much after 6/7pm like it has in the past due to the holiday (acting a bit closer to how a Saturday typically trends), so a sub-20% drop versus last Sunday is possible (sub-25% is probably locked).

Looking like 280-290k usual locations. Gross will be ¥540-560mn (-24% last week). Nice. ¥980-1000mn weekend.

¥25.48 billion was reported after it left theaters until Eiren revealed ¥25.50 billion as its total in their yearly report. http://eiren.org/toukei/img/eiren_kosyu/data_2014.pdf

It's not always true, but for big films, they will sometimes round up like this.

It's excellent. At the time of that image being taken (around 11am), it had sold 67% of all of its available seats for the entire day. Any time with an X (and greyed out) is sold out. Any time with a triangle is currently over 80% full. And any time with a circle is over 50% full (though being Aeon, they begin marked as such).

There are times when we can predict. Unless there's a natural calamity that no one saw coming that Demon is going to slay more records

I won't be looking at day growth tbh. Let's begin with the note that number it is doing every day, there's no doubt they are great.

Now coming to the part, this will be having a 24% weekly drop if usual locs is around 285k. Now that's coming from a deflated Sunday last week from strong Saturday. This Sunday is acting as super Saturday with night show strong as Saturday and morning strong as Sunday.

So in real value Sunday drop is perhaps 35% Approx. Saying this because, we may see a Tuesday drop around 40%, so don't panic then.

I was thinking of ¥2.1Bn week, but more like ¥2Bn is likely now. That said it still is good enough to reach ¥35Bn.

Edit: Sunday may be 300k at usual locs, so in above text make changes accordingly.
