Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Check The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It was at $45m after 12 days and wound up with only $58m. Annie might make a few million more of less than $70m but I don't see it making $80m. It will be lucky to make $70m.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Annie has a remote shot at $100m...let's see what it does this weekend. Should be ~72m on Sunday.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
I think it could be around 75 million by Sunday. But that still may not be enough for 100 million.

I mean there is a remote chance that Annie gets to $100m but it is not likely at this point. This weekend should confirm it.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
It appears Selma, The Imitation Game, and American Sniper could all make a serious run for this mark. With NATM, ITW and Unbroken all certain to get there and Annie with a 50/50 chance, there is a small possibility the record will be broken, and a big possibility it will be matched as long as Selma and The Imitation Game are not botched from here.

Wow, I was dead wrong on Annie. Mad Gez is right. It will get to $85m or so ... which is still not $100m.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Into the Woods goes deep enough to reach 100 million, and Unbroken breaks the mark as well. $100 million movies of 2014 Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark 1. Ride Along - 23 - February 8 2. The LEGO Movie - 9 - February 15 3. 300: Rise of an Empire - 24 - March 30 4. Divergent - 14 - April 3 5. Mr. Peabody and Sherman - 30 - April 5 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 4 - April 7 7. Rio 2 - 22 - May 2 8. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - 5 - May 6 9. Noah - 48 - May 14 10. Godzilla (2014) - 4 - May 19 11. Neighbors - 15 - May 23 12. X-Men: Days of Future Past - 4 - May 26 13. Maleficent - 8 - June 6 14. 22 Jump Street - 9 - June 21 15. The Fault in Our Stars -18 - June 23 16. How To Train Your Dragon 2 - 12 - June 24 17. Transformers: Age of Extinction - 3 - June 29 18. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - 7 - July 17 19. Guardians of the Galaxy- 4 - August 4 20. Lucy- 19 - August 12 21. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- 9 -August 16 22. Edge of Tomorrow- 84 -August 28 23. Gone Girl- 16 - October 18 24. Big Hero 6- 9 - November 15 25. The Maze Runner- 59 - November 16 26. Interstellar- 12 - November 18 27. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1- 3 - November 23 28. The Equalizer- 66 - November 30 29. The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies- 7 - December 23 30. Into the Woods- January 10 - 17 31. Unbroken- January 11 - 18
Into the Woods had a very strong start, but due to mixed WOM, has hardly held up any better than the fan girl fueled Les Miserables. It looks unlikely to get much higher than 130 million. Unbroken also was unexpectedly strong out of the gate, but it looks like it was not the crowd pleaser it could have so easily been with its source material.
Upcoming Films Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, American Sniper
Leaving the List Annie, Selma
The Imitation Game may still make it, but with this poor expansion, it is not certain, and it will be after American Sniper.

Re: $100+ million movies of 2014
Bradley beats Benedict (if he even makes it) to the coveted 100 million mark. Unbroken- January 11 - 18 32. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb- 26 - January 13 33. American Sniper- 26 - January 19
American Sniper didn't just reach 100 million, it demolished the mark in a far shorter time frame than just about anyone was expecting. It is by far the best performing film of its kind, having almost matched the total of Lone Survivor after OW. It outperformed Gran Torino's OW OD, and will out gross studio tentpoles like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Godzilla, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, The Lego Movie, Maleficent, Transformers: Age of Extinction, 22 Jump Street and Interstellar. It theoretically could end up as #1 over Guardians and Hunger Games. Well done to all involved.
Upcoming Films The Imitation Game? Despite its mediocre at best expansion last weekend, it is still over 6 million ahead of The King's Speech through Week 8. This weekend's true wide expansion will be the final teller as to whether this film crosses the coveted 100 million mark.

Damn looks like The Imitation Game will just miss. Damn American Sniper taking all of its heat! 33 movies is two less than last year; hopefully 2015 can rebound.

If it had won some awards, it would have had a better chance.
