It's still early to be saying much, IMO, but as the open draws nearer I see more people excepting this movie, and even if it doesn't hit 100m open, it should at least get to 75m. The bolded above illustrates how guaranteed an 80m+ wknd is. I hope so. This film could save the Star Trek franchise

One problem with that Arclight showing is that the Arclight always sells out its shows. You may argue that it sold out this early but I dont know if most other movies sell their tickets this early in the stage

My main argument wasnt really that of how early presales go on sale but more to do with the equivalent of selling out the Hollywood Arclight is like getting a thumbs up from Gene Shalit

Re: STAR TREK $100m opening weekend club (CLOSED)
I dont understand you guys. This film will probably open to 90-95% of its potential (by that I mean itll open between 45-55) and you guys will be dissappointed. Star Trek 2 is where the real money will be.
I forsee something like this:
Friday: 19.5 Million (3.5 from Midnights) Saturday: 20.8 Million (+30% from a midnightless Friday) Sunday: 14 Million Opening weekend: 54.3 Million 2nd Weekend: 33.6 Million 3rd Weekend: 19.5 Million (4-day = 23.7) 5th Weekend: 8.8 Million 6th Weekend: 5.6 Million 7th Weekend: 3.9 Million 8th Weekend: 2.7 Million 9th Weekend: 1.9 Million ^That totals 134. With weekdays its around 165. So I forsee 54/175 for now; thats a 3.25 multiplier with some big competition.
This thing should have opened on a different date, that is for damn sure.

The ArcLight in L.A. has sold out its first midnight show... (the one in the Cinerama Dome) umm I could be wrong, but I think that has been sold out for weeks. I was out there and looking at movies while in LA at the place, that was on march 16th I think, and it was already sold out.

Variety reports that a sequel is set for Summer 2011... and if the film fails to ignite on opening weekend, all that will simply go away. I'm sure somewhere someone had hopes for Wild Wild West II as well.

Variety reports that a sequel is set for Summer 2011... I think a sequel could suck, but if this lives up to its marketing, I would be there for the midnight.

The should just try with another TV show. There is yet a ST movie to be something more than average at best. Most of ST movies are bad.

I knew I was forgetting something. Yeah, First Contact is really good. But my point stands for the rest of the movies. The marketing for the new ST looks good, but that's just marketing. As a movie franchise, I'm wary of the quality.

How is this movie, in any way, related to the others? It's not. New blood. There's no precedent for judging the potential of this movie relative to any other release.
And, the previous movies have ranged from excellent (Khan) to great (FC, IV) to harmless (III,IV,VIII) to ambitious failures (TMP) to disasters (NEM, V). There's a range of hits and misses.

^Considering that'd require making only ~86m$, isn't that a bit likely?
The challenge is to make 100% more... on opening weekend.

You don't reboot a franchise unless it's gone down the drain. This could be what BB was to B&R. Then again it could go the Superman Returns route and be a glorious bore.

If you knew anything about the chronology of the films I'd listed, you'd see that I pretty much said that. I think it's common knowledge that Nemesis sucked, that Insurrection was an overlong TV episode (but entertaining), and that anything before that is too far back to matter. Which is true. The last films don't compare to the downturn other franchises have seen, though - but that's very much my opinion (Jaws, anyone? yikes). It's not a reboot, though...
