In Demon Slayer's case, some of the bathrooms were decorated with wisteria flowers along the ceiling.

A trip to Japan is probably quite some time away, but I will definitely go at some point. :)

You don't live in Japan ?

I think Rengoku "only" has to protect 200 passengers aboard the Mugen Train in the story, but the real this is ridiculous! :zonks:

Yes for this weekend i have to congratulate @Corpse the prediction was exactly right, with a Saturday at $7.9M and a Sunday at $6.9M, we do have a weekend at $14.8M, as you predicted @Corpse, so for that bravo.

I hope that with the actuals, we will have a weekend over $ 15M, it's quite possible, right?

It can't be exactly right until the actuals come in tomorrow, but thank you. :P

It could go either way. I don't think the actual will differ too much from the estimates, but both Saturday and Sunday probably acted slightly out of the norm. Saturday because it was a Toho Cinemas Day, meaning the avg. ticket price for the day is slightly lower and their share of tickets sales would have been slightly higher. Whereas Sunday the ticket sale share at all the other chains was likely higher than normal (a number of Aeon Cinemas ran out of the giveaway in the afternoon for example, quite early on, indicating major business for them).

These should be fairly minimal effects though, so I wouldn't expect the actual to change too much as I mentioned. Could go up a tad, could go down a tad.

I'll have a bunch of things to update and post in the next hour.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Looks like it could approach the all-time top 10 in Taiwan. Quite a remarkable achievement either way, but especially so if it does.

Expectations for its upcoming release in China are indeed high based what I've read people talking about on local (Japanese) boards. And judging by its huge numbers in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong now, we can probably expect all the Southeast Asian and Oceania markets to put up big numbers I'd imagine.

Thank you I actually joined this place after seeing this thread on reddit I actually love this thread way better than most news you get on internet and yes I am sure that demon slayer would do very good and it is phenomenal

It would need to drop +35% to miss so seems likely and next Sunday should hold well.

Missing 25B will be a surprising, basically meaning less than ¥1.73bn Mon-Sun. If that was to happen, it will be very close race with Spirited Away.

That said, totally expecting ¥25.4Bn by Sunday.

I'm expecting it'll exceed ¥24 billion on Friday, then surpass Your Name. after next Sunday and be a bit above ¥25 billion. Next Monday is a holiday, so it should then do enough to surpass Frozen. And then it'll surpass Titanic sometime over the last weekend of November, probably that Saturday (Nov. 28th), just leaving Spirited Away as its last goal.

And before it's asked, it's too early to really project when (as in day or week) it'll surpass Spirited Away, but I'm guessing around Christmas, maybe a little earlier, but not much later. So it'll *probably* be the new #1 film of all time a week or so out from the two-week New Year holiday period this year where it'll add a lot to its new record total/admissions.

When it surpasses Spirited Away, it's going to be an incredible moment since this could very well have been the only and last film with any chance to do it, ever. Japan's population is expected to rapidly decline, more than it is now, by 2030 (losing millions a year), meaning the box-office will likely begin declining rapidly as well, making a lot (most/all) records likely impossible to be broken again for a very, very long time (probably after our lifetimes).

Can we expect a big drop since friday is the release of Stand by Me Doraemon 2? The first one did really well. 80M only in Japan.

I don't think so. This upcoming weekend will likely be its biggest drop, but it's not likely Stand By Me Doraemon 2 will dethrone it. Not many chains have released their Friday seating yet, but at all the ones that have, Demon Slayer has more seating and screens than it.

Doraemon appeals largely to families and children, whereas Demon Slayer has generational appeal, so there shouldn't be much direct competition between the two either.

Stand By Me, Doraemon had a strong novelty factor that drove its box office, being the first CGI Doraemon film, so that'll also be hard to replicate. On top of that, pretty much everything has been doing well at the box-office in Japan since theaters reopened back in June EXCEPT for family/children films. Families are going to be the most cautious regarding COVID, and they can't sit together at 50% capacity showings (checkerboard pattern seating), which seem to be the two key factors in what's limiting them right now.

It'll do well, but don't expect anything really close to the first one, but rather an opening/total likely similar to the annual franchise. But Japan can be unpredictable sometimes. There ARE other films to see except for Demon Slayer (Japan makes a LOT of films), but there isn't anything with particular high interest, so the open market (minus Demon Slayer) should provide some benefit.
