Is Pirates of the caribbean your absolute favorite movie of all time or what? I always kinda wondered. I think it might be mine. I think I'll be a pirate next halloween.
With the summer films comming around the corner you will see much more of BJ at BOM
The first Pirates film is within my top 50, number1 is the empire strikes back . Kewlness, Halloween is my favorite holiday.

Halloween is my 2nd favorite holiday after the 4th of July. I get the 4th of July and Pirates 2 in the same week! WOOHOO! Ok I will stop getting off topic and let this get back to what it was meant for.

I'm getting the feeling that this is going to be more and more like Shrek 2 in that everyone knows about it, everyone will watch it, but no one will be able to quite detect just how anticipated the film is beforehand.
I put that down to the "let's see what's playing- oh! let's watch POTC2, I liked the first one quite a bit" effect. I think that the first film's popularity alone guarantees $200-250m. The rest depends on legs, and that in turn depends on the quality of the film. Given the tremendous popularity of the first film, I think advertising is an afterthought. The people who will watch this will watch it whatever the case. It's the extra ten or twenty million that need to be drawn in by the initial audiences via recommendations, good word of mouth, etc.
Let's also keep in mind the moviegoing habits of the audience. POTC had wide popular appeal across the various demographic groups. POTC2 will therefore attract audiences that are not exclusively prone to watch a film during its initial week of releasse. Older audience members are known to take their time. So the film could register good numbers for a month or so. Assuming, of course, the older audiences will give the second film a chance

No way PotC2 beats Shrek 2. So, not even close to $500M, no.

I'm feeling 500million, almost...looks like Da Vinci Code and Cars may be the only BIG movies before Pirates, I don't see any other movies having any real legs to disturb this movie. I'm still sticking to the mid-400's though

I hope you are right BJ. Nanna despises Shrek 2. The first was pretty not good either. I seem to be in the minority on this one but I just didn't like them. Yuck.

The ceiling for this movie is $300M.
If Superman Returns does fantastic business, this will disappoint and fall below $250M. The only thing in its favor, as in the case of the original, no big movies after its release.

Pirates will hurt Superman, not the other way around. No way the ceiling in $300 million. This could go as high as $400 million.
