Yep, JURASSIC WORLD is close to 3.8m and might reach the 4m mark as well...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
I have that down as a lock. Star Wars, Spectre, Fack Ju Göthe 2 and most likely Mockingjay Part 2 will also pass 4 million, so we are looking at eight movies with 4+ million admissions this year, maybe even nine if Inside Out or The Good Dinosaur surprises.
On the other hand, I still can't believe that Avengers: Age of Ultron didn't actually do better. I guess the MCU has reached its ceiling in Germany... I thought 3 million wouldn't be that difficult.

MINIONS reclaims the No. 1 position in its 10th weekend (!) and totals 6.5m admissions (DM1 had 2.5m and DM2 3.7m admissions)...

Looks like FUCK JU GÖHTE 2 will deliver an opening somewhere between 1.8m - 2.6m admissions - what an exciting weekend!

Looks like FJG2 will do a little bit more than $21m this weekend from Germany/Switzerland/Austria...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Mark, do you think Universal will release the numbers for the Back to the Future marathon? I wonder how many movie theatres are showing it. Has got to be at least 500...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
I'm pretty sure they will release numbers... And I got updated numbers for the three movies just last week (BTTF1 has 75,000 more admissions than previously reported - and is even before the triple features officially above the 5m mark)

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
So from 1968 to 2012 we had four German movies with 7m admissions or more..
And now FACK JU GÖHTE 2 just became the third 7m movie in three years (2013 had FACK JU GÖHTE 1 with 7.4m and 2014 had HONIG IM KOPF with 7.2m)

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
So what does that prove? Are cinema tickets getting cheaper or is attendance just booming right now because of amazing German product? Has there been significant investment in German films over the last decade? I find that when I am researching UK films, you can really see the increased ROI.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
I think it has more to do with Starpower plus the fact that Hollywood mostly abandoned comedies and dramedies in favor of earth destroying tentpoles which work in Asia and Latin America.
French comedies and dramedies also work very well in Germany...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Mark, do you think Spectre can pass Skyfall's opening weekend (1.9 million admissions)? I kinda doubt that judging by presales in theatres around me. In fact, looks more like a 1.5-1.6 million opening.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
I think the SW7 presales hurt 007, but with Southern Germany on vacation I believe that Skyfall's opening can be repeated... Including previews, Skyfall opened to 2,136,263 admissions...
FJG2 opening record (box office) might go down after just two months...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
It will certainly go down in December anyway, so...
I also have high hopes for Mockingjay Part 2. Unlike the US, each THG film actually had better admissions than the one before it in Germany. I think Mockingjay 2 can hit 4 million admissions in total.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Mark, do you think FJG2 will still hit 8 million admissions? I am still projecting that, otherwise it'd be the highest opener not to hit the number. It may take open air screenings next summer to do so, though.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
I don't think so, it will lose screens and showtimes heavily this week and fall school holidays will end this week...
But FJG2 had much more staying power than people predicted...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
We'll see. I have a tendency to overproject, you certainly have a tendency to underproject in your weekend charts. FJG2 should be at 7.75 million admissions by the end of November, with Christmas ahead as well as open air sowings in the summer. It's doable. 7.85 million total is the mimimum I see by September 2016.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
The underprojections are on purpose as I like to go up instead of revising them down...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
You could just try to give a realistic, in the middle projection. You must know that some of them are insanely low, like 2.25 million for Er ist wieder da, which it will pass before the month's end FJG2 will hit 7.6 million within the next two weeks, two and a half at most. Same for The Martian and 1.3 million

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Well, I believe there will be steep drops for the next three weekends with two blockbuster openings (007 & MJ2) and plenty of stuff with a lot of need for screens sandwiched in between...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread
Interesting. Not a single theatre around here (Bonn, Cologne, Düsseldorf) had THG-marathons, only the double features. I wonder where the THG and CF numbers came from.
