Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
It's not a lockdown. Japan has never actually been on any lockdown, making it one of the few developed countries to avoid them, I think. It's just measures that are in place in some prefectures, such as shorter buisness hours and some capacity restrictions.
Technically buisness don't even need to follow the requested restrictions, but they've been cooperative with the government's requests to avoid any legislative actions from having to occur. The government also compensates them for lost revenue from closing early, etc.

I updated the first post with your numbers, along with the South Korean release date (next week!).
How is the state of the South Korea box office right now?

How is the state of the South Korea box office right now? Very bad. It will have previews in one chain in Korea for next few days. Yesterday had one of them grossing $45k. Then just that chain wide release on 27th and nationwide complete release on 3rd Feb. Not expecting much. $10mn may be Huge.

That's too bad, but at least it's releasing there.

There's no official box office record in Thailand, but all unofficial charts point out that Demon Slayer ranked #2 of all movie of 2020, #1 among imported movies.

If theaters in EU and US open then $500m should have been easier but now it looks difficult.

I don't think european countries would've contributed enough either way. Without a chinese release $500m is not happening imo.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
It'll probably add another $20 million or so from Japan for $380-385 million, but there's the potential for a little more if it keeps playing through the summer. So I'm guessing it's aiming for ~$425 million worldwide from the markets it's opened in.
Hopefully it can do decently in Australia next week. If/when it opens in the U.S. should net it another $5-10 million, judging by Funimation's previous releases. It also has a release date set for Germany in March, but I don't know its potential there (help, mark66!).
$450 million is probably the final target (assuming "decent" numbers (like $5/10 million each) from U.S., Australia, and Germany) to aim for without a Chinese release. Based on what I've read, it's still in the "delayed" state following censorship approval. But that's been like 2 months now, so I wouldn't bet on it being released there.

Re: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (INTL)
Since there isn't much coming from Hollywood, I think China release is all but certain.
Hong Kong has started the run again and will probably add another million or so for $5M final. Taiwan has done crazy $23M.
China should bare minimum do $50M judging by Hong Kong and Taiwan.
$500M should happen once everything is done.

The $500M is quite possible what would make Demon Slayer the first Japanese film to finish first at the global box office in an entire year in cinema history I guess ?
