Agreed.

At this point, sadly, my fairly optimistic prediction would be 9/29. I could see it going lower.

I am not sure David Ayer's Sabotage will do that well either. Its cast certainly goes beyond Arnie with Sam Worthington, Malin Akerman, Josh Holloway and Terrence Howard lending some support, but honestly, none of them are draws in any way and the film's plot doesn't sound particularly special either. It opens on the second weekend of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will face Transcendence (Wally Pfister's directorial debut starring Johnny Depp) in its sophomore weekend. What is worse, it is distributed by Open Road Films - rarely a good sign. I'd be surprised at anything above $35 million for that as well.

With Gravity and Captain Phillips sucking away all the adult audiences there is really no room for this or The Counselor to be that successful.

Sadly, it will be lucky to get anything over $30M to be honest.

BTW, I don't think I'm breaking my reviews embargo by saying that it is a Stallone film. Not as much an Arnie/Stallone-film as advertised, but really a Sly-pictures with Arnie playing the second lead, but still being a distinctly less prominent figure. I think Arnie appears for the first time about 40 minutes into the movie.

Everyone already knows this anyway.

True. In that case, you broke the embargo.

Nah, the embargo states I cannot write anything referring to the film's quality.

Is there a difference between tough blokes and hard men?

And I have never even seen Cool Hand Luke.

Yes.

Hard men resist wear.

Tough blokes are unable to break.

I was so excited when I saw the reviews yesterday on RT at 57% they are now down to 47% :(

Regardless I am still excited to see this cause the trailers look like so much like blast from the past :P

Okay, so Escape Plan's performance is really bad news for Arnie and Sly in terms of any remaining box-office draw. If it's very lucky, it'll finish with $30-35 million. It could also fail to hit $30 million, though.

Stallone's last chance to prove himself outside of The Expendables films is now with Grudge Match.

It is sad, though. Even if Grudge Match does well, even if it is a huge hit, it just proves people are amused by the idea of two actors who famously played boxers in their youth going head to head. A sports-movie Bucket List. It will not prove he can open an original action film.

I think it just comes down to as much as I love them not trying to sway, they are really just holding onto the glory days. At 67 and 66 respectively, I would love for them to start going for more ensemble acting in dramas or like a Tarantino film. Both do have a lot of genuine talent, but the nostalgia well is drying up. I think Last Vegas, Grudge Match, and Expendables 3 will all be hits though.

Well, that train has left the station.

See, I think the thing is that the majority of younf moviegoers betwen the ages of 16-25 couldn't give two shits about Stallone or Schwarzenegger. In fact, most of their real fans are around the age of 35-50. And I assume those just prefer to watch those films comfortably at home.

I think it s remarkable that Bruce Willis managed to remain a much larger draw than these two still. Especially overseas.

I mean RED 2 underperformed domestically and still might end up with a higher gros than the combined totals of The Last Stand, Bullet to the Head and Escape Plan.

I think one of the reasons for that is that Willis was present all the time. Arnie failed to connect with new audiences when he started his stint as the Governator. He was absent for too long. In the five years between Driven and Rocky Balboa Stallone barely made a mark either. They both kinda missed the train, while Willis lucked out with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, The Whole Ten Yards and Sin City.

I kinda am fine with its gross though the movie's budget was on the high end. Its kinda given now that Stallone and Schwarzenegger won't be getting many movies to headline. I too think doing some serious roles won't hurt them but I am not sure it would fit them.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. If Grudge Match makes even $70m (not to mention the $100m I think it might reach). Sly will still be headlining movies. Maybe not action movies, but still. Schwarzenegger, though, yeah, he's in a different position. Sabotage, Maggie and Triplets all look to either bomb or make less than $20m...which means that studios just won't allow him to headline much ever again.

I think it might be healthy for them both actually. Some supporting roles in med-big movies. Getting the exposure but not putting too much work into it. It's the best way. Hopefully they can appear in some comedies like I've been saying all along. Some family comedies would be cool. Grudge Match is just the beginning...and I cannot wait for this.

Maggie will probably be Arnold's first DTV film, possibly with a token theatrical release. I can not imagine any circumstances in which Universal actually produces Triplets.

It can be good, and I'd like to see them in different and interesting roles. When Robert De Niro made Meet the Parents, it was revelatory and awesome. I love seeing people I like in bright, fresh, lighthearted romps. It won't damage his career anymore than the current trend anyway. I think Grudge Match is the right way to go. I see it doing really well because it's appealing and funny evening viewing.
