You know if they emphasized Soderbergh more in the trailers, less people would have doubts about seeing this.

I doubt emphasizing his name would change much. The type of person who loves Soderbergh and will see any film he directs will know this is his movie. I can't see a general-audience moviegoer who isn't interested in this saying, "Wait, it's from the director of Sex, Lies and Videotape and Traffic? I'm there."

Did Howard's name helped The Dilemma? Although, Magic Mike doesn't look like a stupid comedy.

Hmm, just noticed Dilemma also had Tatum.

The x factor is "Moves Like Jagger", which they've been using for the tv spots. If they can get women to think of Channing Tatum stripping every time that song comes on then Magic Mike has no limits.

I don't think it could hurt saying "From The Director of Ocean's Eleven," but I also don't think it would really help. The macho straight guys refusing to see this still wouldn't go see it.

The 9.0 average is what impresses me the most. Also, both THR and Variety reviews are calling it a surefire WOM hit, so maybe it won't be too frontloaded.

I'm torn. It's going to be very close, IMO. In the 37-43 million range.

Fuck it I'm in. All the signs so far point to this having a HUGE opening. I mean there are actually sellouts for this 2 days in advance. I'm expecting an OD in the mid-high teens and even if it's frontloaded it should still stay comfortably above $40M.

As much as I want Magic Mike to beat the crap out of Ted this weekend just to piss off many people, I don't see $40+ million happening. Ted is getting way more showtimes than MM where I live, not to mention Ted has broader appeal as a buddy comedy with a familiar theme.

Thanks guys. Theaters should have had this on more screens. Despite many adding more shows there are still quite a few others that didn't. Despite seeing several sell-outs last night in my state pretty much every theater only had it on one screen. However this may help it to not drop as hard on Saturday.
