KJ's Favorite Five Modern Artists (The Final Countdown)
17 lists total and I like what we've come up with. 5. Delta GoodremShowing the diversity of our forum, we start wth an artist that I had never heard before. Delta hasn't seen too much exposure in America, so I'm guessing I'm not alone on this. In the other English speaking countries she is very well known. All but one of her albums have hit #1 in her home continent of Australia along with nine #1 singles. She's pretty much their Rihanna. I gave the first album a listen and really enjoyed a few songs like "Lost Without You". I think alot of people here would enjoy it too. And 5. AdeleTied for fifth place is an artist who is the opposite in terms of American success. She recently shattered the US sales record in an era where nobody buys albums. So it may come as a surprise that just snuck into the top 5 with a single point on the very last ballot. Adele certainly has a big fanbase around here and it would have been weird to leave her off. 21 is a great album too, with several smash hits that are still beloved. Moving on.. 4. Taylor SwiftThe only artist on the top 5 to not have a single #1 placing. She did place on five of the seventeen lists though, which is tied for most. And shes just so darn adorable. Even though Taylor has always made pop music, she recently switched over to even poppier pop, taking her to even bigger levels or stardom. It's likely that she will have another monster album out this fall. The top 3 all received significantly more points so I'll tie them together in a seperate post.

Re: KJ's Favorite Five Modern Artists
There was also a tie for second place.
2. Kanye West
I thought recency bias would put Yeezus over the top here. He and the artist he tied with both fell just one point short though. All eight of his albums have been critically successful. Yet, because of his personality, he has become to the most divisive artist of our time. I can't blame people for that. His lyrics reflect the man withon. But for me, and atleast three others, its not enough to overcome the eight albums.
And
2. Lady Gaga
Her run at the top may have been short, but I believe she is the most influential pop artist since Madonna. Electronic dance music was rising, but she made it the undisputed king of pop music styles. Gaga also became a divisive figure because of her personal life. For a little while, her outfits and messages were louder than her music. I think she has settled into a good groove now though, making people remember why they liked her in the first place.

1. The KillersProbably not to much of a surprise. The Killers lead for almost the entire voting period. Kanye and Gaga both made late pushes at the end but neither could get over the hump. They received 19 points in all and were the only band to get more than 7. Congratulations to Brandon Flowers and The Killers, you are World of KJ's favorite modern artist. Let us all listen to "Mr. Brightside" to celebrate. Although "When You Were Young" is their best. Thanks to everyone who gave me a list!! I'll post full results later on.

-I probably wouldn't know who Delta Goodrem is if I had not seen her on MTV or VH1. -I would have voted for Taylor Swift, but I only like a handful of her country songs. -I'd probably rate Lady Gaga as the most consistent on my list. -I have never understood why Kanye is so popular.

We're such hipsters. Though I probably would've ranked Tay #1 if I would've done this.

Killers actually won by 2.
The Killers - 19 points Lady Gaga - 17 Kanye West - 17 Taylor Swift - 11 Adele - 10 Delta Goodrem - 10 Pink - 9 Arcade Fire - 7 The Strokes - 7 Coldplay - 7 Arctic Monkeys - 5 Editors - 5
Everyone else got less than 5 or was on only one ballot.

Re: KJ's Favorite Five Modern Artists (The Final Countdown)
Nice list. Glad to see my votes for Kanye and Delta matter in the ranking. Killers are darn good, but frankly I lost track of them since 7-8 years ago. Gaga and Adele, whilst not voting for them myself, are icons in the industry, and can call there presence in the list well deserved. Just Swift, yuk.

Not enough votes to really make it interesting.

Good to see The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys on the list as well. Delta is a pleasant surprise.
