I can't keep my feet on the ground, and I'm nervous what you'll think of me now

34. Ego by Halsey

-We last saw Halsey in 2021, where she placed number two in both song and album (behind Beartooth on both, though the judge's decision is still controversial to this day.) Hal and Trent Reznor together was such a perfect combination that her follow up without him was always gonna have trouble meeting expectations ... and she very ambitious with The Great Impersonator album ... and it was kind of a mess. Sure starts off hot though with this tribute to Avril ... or maybe Jagged Little Pill era Alanis? Harder to say with this one than others on the album, like the second best track Lucky is obviously Britney and the third best track Lonely Is The Muse is obviously Evanescence. Ego actually reminds me more of Manic era Halsey than anything else, which might be appropriate considering the lyrics and its place as the album opener lol.

A little more fucked up than I care to admit, I'm ashamed of the ways I deal with it

33. Haunter by Alpha Wolf

-Crikey! Its more metalcore out of Austrailia, pushing the genre forward by incorporating progressive elements to the brutal riffs and devastating breakdowns. And not only from down under, but from Tazmania which is statistically the most hardcore island on Earth. I imagine theres alot of rapid spinning at their live shows. Also, while there's no evidence that this song has anything to do with the pokemon Haunter, there's no evidence that it does not.

Monday through an echo feels like heaven, feels like heartache

32. Death & Romance by Magdalena Bay

-The hottest new indie pop act (i know thats a paradox except its not) of the year are actually a mated couple which is adorable except that the music will stop if they ever break up (we still waiting on a White Stripes reunion...) Apparently they are also known for their tiktok videos where they show people how to make green screen music videos at home. I guess thats kinda cool? Gotta do something to make yourself stand out from the pack in this age of infinite content, even if the music should be enough on its own.

I'll draw a devil on the wall!

31. Mirage by Gel

-Gel's songs and albums are all very short and get to the point quickly, so shall I: not only is lead singer Sami Kaiser a total badass, but she is also surprisingly attractive for the hardcore genre (despite looking purposfully grimey in this video.) Was wearing this short blue dress at riotfest that made go Yom.

Want it all, I won't leave a breadcrumb, Bitch what? Thought a - said something

30. redrum by 21 Savage

-21 Savage is like a power hitter in baseball where he strikes out a lot ( ;-) ) but when he does connect with the ball it usually leaves the park. The previously punned A Lot is still his best, but Redrum made a run at the top early this year and is on level with Topia Twins aka Twin Bitches Hoppin Off A Jetskiiiiiiiii with Travis Scott. I gotta be honest about one thing though - I still don't know what a gblock is despite it being my favorite part of the song. I'm too scared to ask.

Decided to listen to Beastie Boys 'To The 5 Boroughs' album from 20 years ago and it still holds up incredibly. Easy to get lost in their discography, but that one will always be special to me. Will check up on others from 2004 to see if it holds its place at #1. Except for lostprophets of course.

Will post one, maybe two more songs tonight.

I take my whiskey neat, my coffee black in my bed at 3

29. Too Sweet by Hozier

-Here's a guy I never thought would be seen around here. Him coming out with this random #1 charting pop bop has to be the most random thing in 2024 music. Also goes to show why you should never give up on an artist. Hozier was always a good songwriter, but his music was boring. Put a killer guitar riff and hook on it? Now we're talking. I take my whiskey with Dr. Pepper if anyone was interested. No coffee for me, but I will take a fizz free Celsius in bed at 3.

Don't tell me how you miss me, I could die tonight of a broken heart

28. A Fragile Thing by The Cure

-The Cure escape the old man ban just by being timeless. They played some of these new songs last year during the big tour and I could not have even told you they were new, they fit in with the rest of their discography perfectly. Sometimes that can be sad, but guess what, with The Cure everything is sad! Its supposed to be! But in this case, getting at least one more great Cure album (they've never made a bad one) is a joyous gift.

Was gonna post more before heading out tonight, but my stupid laptop keeps freezing. Annoying, but at least it settles a debate over what platform to buy Civilization 7 on. PS5 wins. :funny: We'll try again later for more.

She got her titties done and I guess they look alright, they call her Princess Peach, she downin every pipe

27. Wishlist by Denzel Curry and Armani White

-After a brief detour in a slower, more socially conscious rap style a few years ago with Melt My Eyes (#4 song on 2022 was Walkin), Denzel goes back to his more hype rap roots. Good thing is, he does both well. And saying hoes gon be hoes they come with a wishlist probably wouldn't go over so well in a more serious environment. Yet the truth of the matter is that this message is just as important as all the injustice stuff ... cause hoes do be like that sometime.

Your immortal perfection freshly severed and held by your hair

26. Turning Hate Into Rage by Boundaries

-Hey Americans can make good metal too! I could go on and on about how dope and brual this is, but lets explore something more interesting - their answers to "Whats your favorite animal?" on their Ask Me Anything reddit. Two said bears (and one questioned how theyre even real which is a fair curiousity), one said cats (my answer), one said beavers (wtf is with the dams?) but the vocalist said birds, specifically an Indian parrot name beakybeaker. I guess that makes sense, but at the same time, fuck parrots, they steal all of their material.

God knows I'm trying but there's not just use in denying

25. The Boy Is Mine by Ariana Grande

-Most people will probably not remember Ari's 2024 for her Eternal Sunshine album that dropped about 8 months before Wicked released, but I really liked it and hope she doesn't forget to keep making music like this now that she's a moviestar.

Talking hearts and tarts they wanna steal, aint ever seen anything so surreal

24. Alice by Japandroids

-Rejoice and remorse simultaneously! Yes it is sad that Japandroids are calling it quits (for now), however, its been a whole ass seven years since their last album ... so I thought they were already broken up lol. Even if they don't ever come back for album 5, or tour for this album (everyone runs out of money), these fellas have cemented their legacy as one of the last great bastions of not-screaming rock music of the post 2010s.

Post Re: Flava'd Fifty: 2024, Count the Score (25)
Well my laptop seems to be working better today. There's no way I'd have the patience to do this on my phone, so the FF lives on for at least one more year haha. Still don't have a ton of time though, so probably just one more song before works.

Also, listened some more 2004 stuff too to see how its all holding up.

Eminem 'Encore' - woof. I member thinking Eminem could do no wrong, and being very disappointed by this but still enjoying it. While it has some great songs like Never Enough, Evil Deeds, Spend Some Time, even Just Lose It is still kinda funny ... but man that stretch from Puke through Big Weeniie is rough. I might owe The Death of Slim Shady an apology.

My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Kelly Clarkson, Franz Ferdinand - these are all still fantastic. Hindsight and nostalgia help I'm sure, but I think any of these could have made a run at #1 if released this year.

23. Generator by Justice

-No lyrics above cause there aren't any to post. Speaking of taking a long time between albums, these frenchies took even longer with eight years since Woman. They seem to have more stability with their return though, booking tons of festivals and tour dates. And they came back with my favorite style of theirs, the slightly aggressive prog rock sounding electronica. The type of thing you'd hear if you were being chased by Godzilla in the Matrix. Sure, DANCE is their biggest hit by far, but us true Justeers member songs like Genesis and Civilization more fondly.

Its a vicious cycle, got me spinning in a downward spiral

22. Split by The Ghost Inside

-I feel my sanity split, I'm fucking losing it! Possibly my favorite breakdown call out of the year. Though apparently not everyone was as in like with this new album as me since they cancelled their headlining tour. :-(

Drive it home, hide the body in its shell, move in the glow, left to wander in the cell

21. Cure by Erra

-Fucking killer djent riff here. This song could be a poster boy for the whole subgenre of a subgenre!

Collide us while we work it out

20. Dancer by Idles and LCD Soundsystem

-Dancer may not be the #1 song of the year, but it may have the best video lol. Anyway, when a band like Idles, whom I was previously meh on, is suddenly really good there's usually an easy explanation if you look right to the producer. Obviously James Murphy, but perhaps more important is Nigel Godrich. You look at his discography and see all the best Radiohead albums (amongst others_ and go "ok that makes sense."

Go go go go, head so good she honor roll

19. Carnival by Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign, Rich the Kid and Playboi Carti

-We back! Well some of us anyway, not everyone agrees that Vultures is a real comeback for Ye, but those of us who do are much happier. Carnival was everywhere earlier in the year. It borrows Seth Rollins theme song, but I don't think we ever have to worry about wrestling fans singing the words during a live event - thank goodness. While I also love Do It (and the way the beat transitions into Back That Ass Up at the end), Carnival is just so epic and feels like a song we'll be bumping in the years to come.

Annie Clark wants to have a creepy industrial, Nine Inch Nails inspired song/album? Well OK. Don't have to ask me twice. Im in.

17. Type Shit by Future, Metro Boomin, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti

-Really love hearing the bells on this beat. Kinda makes me think of a certain movie and thus I will dub this Hunchback Trap.

People say: I need God on command, god on demand

16. Bless Yourself by Jack White

-Perhaps a song called Bless Yourself is not the most appropriate for Christmas, a holiday that heavily involves giving and recieving gifts from others. Yet, the premise itself is flawed, since Jack White is already blessing us with his best work in ten years (Lazaretto was 2014 I think?) or shit we could even go back to Elephant in 2003 to find something comparable to this new album. Its quite excellent. Jack Black had to cancel his own band this year, so Jack White needed to rock enough for the both of them and damn did he pull it off. One big issue with Jack though; he's decided that he wants his next tour to be smaller venues and I wasn't able to get tickets before they sold out in 2 seconds >:-(.
