You know what I keep in the lining
33. Grindin by Clipse
-Don't want no pushin p, you wanna see some pusha t? Well here he is, along with Malica and a smooooooth beat from Pharrell / the Neptunes. While this song was a hit, Clipse would really blow up due to their feature on Justin Timberlake's Like I Love You in the fall.

Now lets get it all in perspective
32. Made You Look by Nas
-I always call Nas the most consistent rapper of all time and here is yet more proof of it. One of his best songs just chillin in the middle of the list as usual.

Put it out for the world to see, LP and X-Men to the 10th degree
31. It's Going Down by The X-Ecutioners, Mike Shinoda and Mr. Han
-While we waited patiently for Linkin Park to release their second album, they were doing remixes and other stuff like this ... which is fine, cause this song was a blazer and absolutely fit the end of the numetal era. Wayne Static and several other LP members are in the video, but I think only Mike and Han are actually on the recording.

Don't this shit make a honkey wanna jump jump?
30. Pass The Courvoisier Part II by Busta Rhymes, Puff Diddy and Pharrell
-I hope I spelled that right ... I also can't remember what Diddy was going by back then ... but now he's going to cell block one mirite? Anyways, besides this song being awesome I have two memories connected to it: 1) That I bought the album without realizing that this song was only on the bonus version and that PTC Pt1 is pretty lame. 2) The iconic performance at the VMAs where they were jumping on trampolines and stuff.

Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess
29. Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly
-For my money, this is the premiere irish punk song, and Dropkick Murphy's Shipping Up To Boston has to settle for #2. As usual with irish punk, the lyrics themselves are pretty sad and somber, but still meant to be danced to on top of a table or whatever they do over there.

Away in the Grand Canyon, these kids are grand standin'
28. Oh Boy by Cam'ron and Juelz Santana
-One of the best Just Blaze beats and one of the best uses of a sample ever. They use the 'boy' over and over and yet it always fits in the bar.

27. Not Falling by Mudvayne
-This entry is brought to us by yet another movie soundtrack as anyone who has seen Ghost Ship can confirm. They play this song several times in the movie lol. Gets the (dead) people hyped.

Home boy, I came to party, your girl was looking at me
26. Nothin by NORE
Another super hot Neptunes beat featuring Pharrell on the hook. This was one of my songs of the summer that year.

I don't mind spending every day, out on your corner in the pouring rain
25. She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5
-Like most folk, I didn't hear about M5 until late 03 when Harder To Breathe was finally catching on, breaking through the prestigious VH1 weekly countdown and eventually making it onto MTV. This record came out all the way in June 2002 though, so it qualifies. Always funny to think that Maroon started off being marketed to old people who missed the 90s lite-rock sound and then somehow elephanted into one of the biggest pop groups of the century.

I had meant to post those two last night to complete the first half + give you all a song you like to get hyped for second half. Will begin the "second half" properly in a little bit.

Maroon 5's Songs About Jane singles were really good, it was all downhill from there though.
Will Good Charlotte be appearing? The Anthem is kind of a banger.

Do you really wanna be like them? Do you really wanna be another trend?
24. The Anthem by Good Charlotte
-I swear this was next up before Shack even said anything. He must be hacking my google docs. Anyways, I'll admit to being down on Good Charlotte at first. Something about becoming rich and famous by complaining about people who are rich and famous complain about being rich and famous just didn't sit right with me. So I was resistant to The Anthem when it first released and it wasn't until their follow up album's lead single "Predictable" that I finally broke down and realized that Good Charlotte was good times. The Anthem is just undeniable fun.

Paid my dues, in the mood, me and my girls come to shake the room
23. Dirrty by Christina Agulera and Redman
-Fighter might be the best song from this album, but the Dirrty music video was everything back in 2002. It had to be included.

I was like "good gracious, ass is bodacious"
21. Hot In Herre by Nelly
-Nelly was so big in 2002 that he spent 17 of the 52 weeks at #1 with this song and the somehow even bigger Dilemma. This one ended up being more timeless though. Everyone knows Hot In Herre.

I think I figured out the problem with Good Charlotte, they are in the rare lead singer is the weak link club. The Anthem's MVP is the guitar player brother that married Diaz.

You know you really oughta move outta California
20. Get Free by The Vines
-Another legendary music video with the lightning strikes. Propelled them all the way to a VMA performance, something truly out of another era. It was kind of a last ride of grungey, strung out Cobain types in the mainstream (until Matt Healy figured out a way to put that personality type in a pop band lol.)
This thread is a nice nostalgic throwback to my teens.

Nostalgia overload when I went through the whole playlist. This was end of 8th grade and first year of high school for me.
A few more tonight and then sleep.

As passion encircles the daily storm
19. March Of The Fire Ants by Mastodon
-This is one of the few songs I hadn't yet heard in the year 02 proper (I think it was 07 or 08 , whatever album had Wolf is Loose on it is what got me into them.) The song was pretty extreme, but I guess a bit too grimey for Xtreme Radio? More likely, they just weren't on the right record label. Remember kids, one company owns every radio station. I probably wouldn't have appreciated it anyway. This epic guitar riff needs a more mature taste to flourish.

Can we talk about automatic satisfaction?
18. Up All Night by Unwritten Law
-Unwritten Law had a big hit this year with Seein Red, which is more in line with the MCR/AFI emo era to come. But I always preferred this one that calls back to their punky roots, but also gives a Blinkish vibe that makes it sounds huge.

So I take my face and bash it into a mirror
17. Here To Stay by Korn
-Perhaps this song was poorly titled as the nu-metal genre was on its way out of pop culture (and it took the rest of rock music along with it.) Weird that it would be happening now, in between the two Linkin Park records which were absolutely massive. The next time we saw Korn they were actively rebelling against the concept of making a hit (say fuck that, fuck that.)
