I think that there would be a lot more harmony in America because every group after would have felt the pressure to assimilate too and we'd all be similar in our beliefs and customs.
It's a good question, but I'm not sure if it would have happened. Had the Native peoples not been mostly wiped out by disease, I don't think assimilation would have been the alternative. Just look at most of the other parts of the world that were heavily colonized (Africa and Asia): almost no assimilation at all, aside from European languages being very commonly used as the main language in a lot of African countries.
