Anyone who is good at law...
At my school today, there were some scammers in the academic quad spewing hate to get a violent reaction so they could sue the school. There were tons of people watching and the administration and police were there, but they couldn't stop it because it was "free speech on public property". Are there any technicalities or loopholes I'm unaware of that could help prevent these demonstrators from being allowed on campus?

Re: Anyone who is good at law...
lol what? free speech on private property? that's not a thing. the owner of said property can set the rules and kick them off the premises.
also, ask Groucho.

Re: Anyone who is good at law...
Interesting question. Can you be more specific? "Some scammers in the academic quad spewing hate to get a violent reaction so they could sue the school." could be your own opinions.
I am no expert. But I think disorderly conduct or disruption of public order may be applicable.

I would love to know what they're "spewing hate" about. I assume since you don't like it, it's anti-trump.

Re: Anyone who is good at law...
The most important thing is that the school have a policy and the policy is followed no matter the content of the speech. (If it's a public school; that is, relying on public money. A private school can prohibit what it wants.)
In other words, if they allow people to speak on campus, they can't say "We'll allow YOU to speak but not YOU." They can't discriminate based on whether they like the speech of not.

It's good to have a professional here. Some questions: What about safe space? Doesn't safe space restrict speech based on content? Do schools treat visitors the same as students and employees in the matters of protests/rallies?

You'd almost think he went to law school or something.

Usually lawyers specialise in one area. But I guess Groucho is an expert in everything

Re: Anyone who is good at law...
Even if Groucho only specializes in one aspect of law, I would assume he knows quite a bit due to schooling. And some cases are quite broad and can relate to many different situations.

Algren wrote: Usually lawyers specialise in one area. But I guess Groucho is an expert in everything Lawyers are not able to "specialize" in anything per the model rules of professional conduct, which is ratified by the state bar in most (all?) Jurisdictions with minimal changes. But I agree. In effect they do. All I work on is government contracts and remember only general rules about criminal law, procedure, torts, elder law, property law, etc.

Do schools treat visitors the same as students and employees in the matters of protests/rallies? Safe spaces do indeed, and sometimes they go too far and prohibit speech completely. I think that's wrong. If there are "safe spaces" and other spaces as well, it's not as bad but if the entire campus is a "safe space" then yes, I think that violates the 1st Amendment. A school can surely keep out nonstudents and have a separate policy for them. A lot has to do with the school's policy. It should be equally applied without regard to the content of the speech.

Algren wrote: So Groucho specializes in all areas of law? I'm a criminal defense attorney who specialized in Constitutional Law when in school and then later taught Constitutional Law on a college level. Obviously, in my day to day practice, I do talk a lot about rights and the Constitution, albeit mostly the criminal rights part. So no, I may not be as much of an expert as an actual full-time law school professor who writes books on the Constitution, but I do know what I'm talking about. Now if you had asked about divorce law or needed help with a bankruptcy or something, I wouldn't be able to give more than just basic advice. Good lawyers specialize.

The president of the University sent a message saying that there is absolutely nothing the administration can do to get him to leave if he comes back.
Fuck.
