About 60 posts ago I noticed that I was fast approaching 90,000 posts and I thought that for the occasion I write something slightly more meaningful than usual. It's insane to think that many of us have spent over 12 years here (and if you add the short BOM time, which in retrospect seems much longer than it actually was), it is 14 years. I have joined BOM on January 2nd 2003 because that was the first time I found out that there were other weirdos like me who were interested in box-office (something none of my real-life friends understands to date, but at least among my journalist colleagues I have become the go-to guy for numbers and stats and have won a few bets with that, so yay I guess). It was the first online forum I have ever joined and that and WOKJ are to date the only ones where I actually spent more than a month or two being active. BOM was big, but once we moved to WOKJ it became a smaller, yet quite close-knit community. It was sad seeing many great guys and girls leave over the years (though I still maintain contact with a few of them outside of WOKJ), but I am glad that a fair number stayed here. Due to the fact that we had little fluctuations in terms of active new members (zwackerm is like that one child born in Children of Men after a long, long time of infertility, LOL) I feel like we, as a small community kind of grew up together. Most of us were high school or maybe college freshmen when we first started posting here. Except Groucho, who's pretty much our Gandalf. In a way we went through school, college, found jobs, married, divorced, got kids, moved places...all side by side. We saw it other grow and develop. Some for the better, some for the worse, though that doesn't matter. What I am trying to say in more words than I actually intended is that despite many changes in my life over the past 14 years WOKJ has been one of the few big constants. I have met a lot of people I learned here or on BOM in person. Some became true friends. But even those who didn't, I still appreciate seeing you here, having all the facets of WOKJ, even the more asshole ones. Love ya, guys. Yes, even you zwackerm and you Algren. Except Bradley, he can go fuck himself hard. ![]() [/rambling] |

What's the fastest pace to 10,000? I should get there by December after 2 1/2 years of membership. |

I am pretty sure I was there much faster. |

zwackerm wrote: What's the fastest pace to 10,000? I should get there by December after 2 1/2 years of membership. I was up to 9k within a year of joining here. Then I stopped posting. Been back four years and I'm almost at 50k (other members have equally fast paces). So 10k after two and a half years is pretty slow. |

You must have not had lives. Weird, it always seems to me that I'm one of the most active posters. |

You must know what in the first few years WOKJ was a MUCH MUCH busier place, so reaching 10,000 posts within a year was easy. There were days with way over 1,000 posts made here. |

I think my personal record was something like 400-500 posts in one day and those were not some posts in game threads, but actual topics. |

That took not more than 5-6 hours. How do you think do I still have a 20 posts/day average despite longer stretches when I have barely posted? |

Prime KJ was untouchable. 2006-2008 was great. |

Look like Libs and I joined WOKJ 3 mins apart, back on Oct 12 of 2014, a few days before Lecter did. Don't think there is another forum that feels closer to me, despite becoming much less active since the first baby. |

zwackerm wrote: You must have not had lives. Weird, it always seems to me that I'm one of the most active posters. The rest of the forum isn't that different but the Water Cooler had unrecognizable levels of activity back in the day compared to now with a lot of posters who never went to any other section, almost all of whom are gone now. There was probably a snowball effect where once some of their friends left the socializers found it less fun here leading to more leaving etc. People interested in the sections like box office and Oscar forums will always have a reason to post here |

Great post Lecter. We've lost a lot of great posters over the years but an argument can be made that you're a biggest reason why things have stayed alive here. Your involvement with the community is unmatched. Thanks Artur and congrats on 90,000. |

It's crazy to think how active this place used to be. And yes, even though it has quieted down exponentially, this is still a place I call home. I mean sure, I'm on Twitter a ton, but that's obviously not the same, and I do visit BOTheory on a daily basis, but that's a different atmosphere. I've still never met anyone here in person, though I almost met Loyal and Ripper. But I would consider most all of you friends. Congrats on the 90,000! |

90k, WOW! Congrats Lecter and thank you for all that you do to keep this place going. Chippy wrote: I've still never met anyone here in person, though I almost met Loyal and Ripper. It's weird how true this feels in retrospect! Idk why but the two years spent posting on BOM (2002-2004) feels almost like an equal span of time despite being just a fraction of it. WOKJ is one of two forums I consider home (AwardsWatch -- a.k.a. AwardsDaily / OscarWatch -- being the other), although I still have a lot of personal affinity for the (now defunct) BOR forums. |
