I mean a real fight, hitting with fists and all... And if you have, how did it end up for you or your opponent? I haven't been in one (not counting boxing/kixkboxing of course), at least not since I was 10 or 11. I remember Algren mentioning something about having been in a fight. Just curious.

I've been in two fights. One when I was 13/14 and the other when I was 18. Other than that, I just took a lot of beatings (too one-sided to be called fights). The first fight was a prick at school who called an insulting nickname, so I swept his legs out from him, his head hit the floor, I followed him down and got close to his face and told him never to call me that again. We scuffled and both got to our feet. I had him in a headlock and continued to knee him in the gut multiple times and knock him against the wall (thus tiring him). It ended with him punching me in the nose; blood ran. I gave him my hardest punch to his cheek, and he had a huge bruise on his face for a week. My nose was fine the next day.

The second fight was with my brother in a nightclub. I'm not very proud of this. Not a lot to remember as we were both very drunk, but we scuffled outside the club having just been thrown out because I clocked him in front of the cashier's desk. It ended with me catching him on the chin. We walked home hurling insults before he turned around and laid into me.

Fights are just awful.

I had a "fight" with my brother a long time ago. I say "fight" because I was 12 and he was 26, so I wouldn't quite call it fair. I don't remember how it started, but I should mention that we never got along well (and still don't). Someone said something, he slapped me and since I knew I was no physical match, I rammed a pen in his forearm and then kicked him in the nuts. Looking back, it was quite a Jason Bourne move.

In 7th? grade, I almost got in a fight with a kid at school. I was with my friends in the school yard and this guy shoved me and I fell backwards onto the ground. My friend immediately jumped on this dude and beat him down. Which was a consistent thing for me growing up. Friends always went to bat for me, whether I wanted them to or not.

In 8th grade, I believe a guy was messing with my little brother (MovieGeek) and I "fought" him, by dodging a punch and grabbing his arm. But that was the end of it.

If getting your ass kicked means getting in a fight, then yes. I was 15 I think and was at a bar when I went outside for a pee. Was together with a friend and 2 guys approached us looking for a fight; never being in a fight, I didn't know what to do, but the guy just give me a round of kicks and punches, one that bruised my jaw. Kind of got a change to run away eventually and that was the end of it.

2 scuffles, 2 fights. All occurring when I was a kid/teenager.

The scuffles: The first was at the public swimming pool. I have a younger brother with a learning disability, and when he was a kid, he was often shy and bashful around people and would sometimes get bullied. I don't remember our exact ages at the time, but I believe it was pre-Middle School (8, 9 maybe). Anyway, one of my brother's classmates was bullying him in the pool, attempting to push him under, etc., and thankfully I saw the problem and went over and punched the kid in the face. It stunned him, and he decided to leave.

The second was in 5th grade, and involved a simple disagreement (I don't remember what over specifically) with one of my friends. It was awkward, and just a few "punches" were thrown/connected before we realized... this hurts! Then we stopped.

The fights: The first was in 9th grade. I was pretty adept in math growing up, so in my Geometry class some classmates noticed I'd regularly receive high marks on most of my work. I was perfectly fine helping anyone, and sharing answers with the friendly/helpful classmates (some I've grown up with). I didn't know every answer to every assignment or test, so it worked out well.... until this 11th grader in the class began bullying me for answers and whatnot; typically school bullying.

I mostly brushed it off, but it eventually became a problem in the halls, the cafeteria, etc., and then his friends became involved. One day, the bully decided to spill his milk all over my back in the cafeteria. I didn't retaliate, but that finally did it; so in Geometry the next day, I poured a bottle of Pepsi(?) through the inside of his backpack, soaking whatever he had in there. He wasn't aware of it until after class, the last period of the day, and we got into a physical fight while waiting on the buses in front of the school. I threw the first punch, but the dude was a lot bigger than me, and I'm certainly not a physical person, so I came out the worst of it. A couple teachers broke it up, we had a talk with the principal that resulted in the bully being transferred to a different math class. He never bullied me afterwards, nor did he ever talk to me again, though, so confronting him clearly worked.

The second was when I was 16. I lived at the roller rink on the weekends throughout my childhood, from the time I was 5 until I moved away. Well, the best time of my childhood was once a month when the rink hosted an "All-Night Skate", which lasted from 7PM-7AM. As a kid, you can skate all night, but as you grew older, it became more of a place to socialize. It was anything goes, no parents, and only one or two workers there most nights.

At one of the all-night skates, one of my friends, a girl, decided she'd "cuddle" up to me (after 2/3AM, many people just fell asleep). I didn't care, but one of her guy friends certainly did and kept calling her a slut and was threatening to kick my ass if I didn't "release" her. (#gayboy problems). I mostly provoked this one, or at least, escalated it because I found it amusing that he was getting angry over absolutely nothing, and I said maybe she likes cuddling up to me more than you (or something along those lines). He didn't take kindly to that, so he grabbed me as I threw an elbow into his side. A couple more hits landed before the girl kept pushing him away and the worker came over yelling at us to break it up; she knew us, we knew her, no biggie. That was pretty much it, and we were all on good terms throughout high school.

An interesting thing was happening to me five years ago. I don't think I would ever start a physical fight. I prefer words. However, when I toom up martial arts, as I wrote in the other thread (kickboxging and pencak silat, later additionally boxing), after a few months, when I was out on weekends with friends, I was kinda hoping someone would try to star a fight with me or us, just so I could put what I learned to use in a real life situation, simply to see how it works. I was training A LOT back then (doing three different martial arts and all), at least five days a week, a few hours each day, but I still certainly grossly overestimated my abilities at that point, I think.

Anyway, it never happened and, as I said, I would never start a fight by myself. However, I found out that I wasnot the only one thinking like that. One of my friends started wing chun around the same time and he was thinking exactly the same as me, hoping some fight would start so he could use the moves. The difference was that would would actively attempt to provoke a fight and I had to hold him back. Again, no fight ever took place in the end.

That doesn't sound unusual, I bet it happens to a lot of people. It may not cause people to outright try to start a fight, at least not many people, to see what happens, but I'm sure a majority think about it/want it to happen.

That's probably true. I didn't feel more aggressive either, it was just an underlying wish. And since I wasn't drinking any alcohol at the time, it couldn't have been that.

It totally depends. Sometimes it is the best course of action. Like, for example, with Corpse's bully. After the fight, he never bothered him again. The same with my school bout. That kid never bothered me again. I would not say fighting is immature. When an antagonistic force is present, sometimes you have to fight to let them know that what they're doing is wrong.

In high school, this awful girl I was playing against in lacrosse tripped me (on purpose) so hard that I smacked my head into the ground and almost got a concussion. I clocked her in the face later.

That's the extent of my physical altercations though.

I agree, though fighting doesn't always have to be physical.

When we refer to fighting in this thread, it is.
