As per usual. Okay, Rooney Mara in Carol and Alicia Vikander in The Danish Girl - I say Lead for both, right? The Big Short - who are leads and who are supporting? The Hateful Eight - who are leads and who are supporting? Spotlight - everyone is supporting, right? |

Samuel L. Jackson is the lead in The Hateful Eight. Everyone else supporting. Steve Carell is the lead in The Big Short. Everyone else supporting. I agree re: Mara, Vikander, and Spotlight. My thoughts on other performances: Paul Dano, Love & Mercy - supporting Oscar Isaac, Ex Machina - supporting Jason Segel, The End of the Tour - supporting Jacob Tremblay, Room - lead Alicia Vikander, Ex Machina - supporting |

Tremblay should be lead. Vikander should be lead for Danish Girl, supporting Ex Machina Mara is lead. Would Cooke be lead or supporting for Dying Girl? Would Ferguson be supporting for MI5? David, would you consider any of the male characters in Far From the Madding Crowd lead? |

I consider all three Far from the Madding Crowd men (Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge) supporting, though Schoenaerts is hard to place. In my opinion, Olivia Cooke (Me and Earl...) and Rebecca Ferguson (Rogue Nation) are supporting. |

Whuut. I feel like Keaton had less screen time than Ruffalo. I think everyone in Spotlight is supporting. I think John Boyega is lead, barely. |

Boyega is lead, but I feel like Ferguson could also be named lead for M:I-5 if Theron is lead in Mad Max... |

In terms of breakthrough, is Michael B. Jordan still considered in the breakthrough phase of his career? Same with Ryan Coogler. |

Every film has loads of actors, but not every film is an ensemble. Would you say Star Wars: The Force Awakens has an ensemble? If not, I will struggle with this category. |

The answer to each of the last three question is: up to the individual. |

In my opinion, any film with two or more significant players has an ensemble, although obviously there is a classic type of contender for this category (examples from 2015 might include The Hateful Eight, Spotlight, and Steve Jobs). |

Hmm. Two or more. That seems pretty low to me. So Focus would be an ensemble? Doesn't feel right to me. But perhaps I will have to go rather low to fill out five options anyway. |
