Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
I'm not very well informed about this topic as I want to enjoy American Sniper as a war film, not a political statement, so I haven't read anything about the guy (I didn't even know he died until I see it in the film).

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
Much more on the hero side than the murderer side, for sure. He certainly wasn't the perfect hero occupying the highest moral high ground by any means, but not fair to say murderer - killing is just an unfortunate part of the job.

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
I don't view him as a murderer. He was a soldier doing his job. Leaving aside who he was as a person, which is harder to say.

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
A soldier doing their job can still be a murderer, legally speaking. Quote: The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_principles#Principle_IV

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
Anyone who thinks he is a murderer needs some psychological help and that's all that needs to be said about that...

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
Depends on how one defines a murderer and defines a hero, and realizes there is a gray area for both.

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
I think he (the movie version of him, that is) is neither a murderer nor a hero.
For some, he is a sex toy they masturbate with to shoot their patriotic loads.
For some others, he is a punching bag they use to train for their imaginary Bush-Gore rematch.

Seems like a douchebag since he is bragging about shooting and killing over 2 dozen looters after hurrican Katrina.

He's both, I suppose. Probably a little more murderer than hero.

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
For me, Chris Kyle was a terrorist. He was part of an army that invaded another country and then he killed civilians that didn't want these invaders in their country. He did that under the guise of "soldier", and that helps you believe the decision was right to kill children, but if he and his army wasn't there in the first place, there would be hundreds more children alive now.

Lecter is the closest.
A douche soldier fallowing the orders of a morally bankrupt/corrupt government.

I don't think anyone here believes the bolded part. I believe the bolded part. Hero and murderer aren't mutually exclusive. Bin Laden was a hero to a lot of people. Bin Laden was once a child, and if he got killed before he became an adult, thousands of dead people would still be alive.

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
No idea. Film won't come out here.
Waiting on that.
But, if we're looking for a murderer, why not George W Bush who sent these guys over there in the first place?
With such technology, is it really that hard to find these terrorists? Can't they send drones to bomb Boko Haram? Seems damn easy.

Re: Chris Kyle - Murderer or Hero?
For being a US Sniper he did his job well and if things get bad, I am certain we want men like Chris Kyle fighting on the front lines.
