Actually Gary's whole argument could be taken from The Joker's monologue in that scene. Unfortunately he tries to meld two separate arguments instead of focusing on the better of the two, which is persecution and the lack of forgiveness when it's deserved in Hollywood. It isn't always deserved. Case in point: Chris Brown. But sometimes forgiveness is deserved, IMO. Example: Michael Richards. I honestly believe he thought on that night, he was just being an edgy comedian and that people would see him differently. People saw him differently and his career was never the same. But he showed remorse for what he said. Too late; the people spoke. His other argument is useless. Bill Maher and Jon Stewart are comedians. Well-dressed comedians on faux-news programs, but comedians all the same. Alec Baldwin and Mel Gibson are not. Comedians have more of a free pass. Not always, obviously, but they can take more liberties. But their words rarely have hate behind them, unlike Baldwin and Gibson, who aren't one-time offenders either. They have a history. Sometimes repeated offenses deserve repeated criticism. |

The problem with Baldwin and Gibson have been other things than saying than just anti-semantic remarks. Gibson had his tired where he called his ex some horrible things and threatened to kill her. Baldwin has done pretty much the same thing to several of his exs. Those are the reasons they have become outcasts not so much their words. And also Oldman is just talking stupid saying the Jews own Hollywood that is just neo-nazi conspiracy garbage. |

He is right. People have become way too sensitive to things which are merely just "words". If you're Black and are truly hurt and offended when a STRANGER uses the word nigger...you have a problem along with him. Same goes for Jews, et al. Yes - the words just shouldn't be said out of respect, but everybody makes a choice to freak the fuck out. Folks who know Mel Gibson will tell you he is a great guy who has a problem with alcohol and a temper. Foils who know Alec Baldwin will tell you similar. I dont know what it says about a society when they ignore the vast majority of a mans reputation to focus on an individuals rare low moments, but it isn't something good. Oldman is correct in that many of the folks judging are hypocrites as I am sure if one judged them at their lowest, they could sound equally bad. |

It's just a word and it is not affecting the black person that heard it. The black person has the sole problem in that he's allowed a word to act as a rage switch. Hearing that word sends them into a rage where if they ended up killing someone, society would probably side with the black man because the term "nigger" is so taboo now. It's fucking pathetic. |
