Yummy yummy in my tummy.
German colleague came to visit and brought us some. Cannot wait to go to Germany and eat more.

 Re: Lebkuchen
Actually Lebkuchen is the one of the German traditional winter pastries that I most dislike. I still eat it, but I very much prefer Stollen, Dominosteine mit Geleefüllung or Spekulatius (this last being my favorite). If you haven't, try those other treats.

I hate all of those above, including Lebkuchen. Now you can imagine that Christmas time pastries over here are definitely not my thing (except Baumkuchen)

It's just that of all the listed above, Lebkuchen was the one I dislike, but not hate, the most. Spekulatius is the only one I wouldn't mind buying, all the others I get as gifts from family and friends. Give me a nougat or cocoa mousse tablet from Ritter Sport or a Milka Caramel 300gr one and I'm the happiest man on earth.

It's not German, but Kürtőskalács is my favorite pastry I've tasted.

I should be going to Munich in February, so I'll be on the hunt for some lebkuchen.

 Re: Lebkuchen
Huh, never heard of Lebkuchen before. I never really got into German pastries, though, I was always more about the savoury things, like the fantastic bread and stuff like Leberkäse and Thüringer Mett.
I did always love my grandmother's Käsekuchen though.

 Re: Lebkuchen
So, I'm definitely going to Munich, and I'm hoping to try some Bavarian classics; Knodel (boiled potato/bread dumplings), Butterbrezel (soft butter pretzel), Kasspatzle (cheesy pasta), Schweinebraten (slow-roasted pork), Leberkase (baked meat), and of course Bratwurst - I hear beef bratwurst is a Munich specialty (beef is my favourite!). But I really hope the restaurants have Lebkuchen on the menu.
Lecter, are these good picks for proper South German grub?

 Re: Lebkuchen
I'm not Lecter, but my mum's side of the family is originally from Southern Germany, so I feel like I can contribute . You DEFINITELY need to have Leberkäse (I like it best on a Kaiseremmel/Kaiser roll even though that's Austrian) and should try some Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) too if you don't dislike potatoes. I think Weisswurst is a traditional Baverian sausage, but it might not be to your liking if beef is your jam, since it's made of pork.

 Re: Lebkuchen
If you are in Bavaria, you MUST try Weißwurst. It is one of THE specialties there. I hate Leberkäse with all my heart and I am not a big fan of bratwurst either, so cannot say much about that. Käsespätzle is great stuff.
Lebkuchen is not a thing restaurants usually serve. You just buy it in shops or on Christmas markets.

 Re: Lebkuchen
Weißwurst isn't being grilled or fried. It is being heated up in very warm water and served.

All I've had from the list so far is butterbrezel and weisswurst. But I gotta say ... Germans know what the fuck they're doing when it comes to food. This is my type of country!
