My guess is that the population here is older than the Boxoffice forums. Well, let's see...

Almost 35.

I am utterly shocked. I really am. These posts are significantly more thought out, insightful, and informative than the Boxoffice forums which are faster paced and more informal. In other words, you guys write like 55 year old guys/gals with 30 years of boxoffice tracking experience. :)

Magnus, my original boxoffice forum was the Time.com Pathfinder boards in the late 90s (tracking Titanic was so much fun). Last remaining refugees are here: http://aboutfilm.lefora.com/

I would say the majority of us have been tracking box office for 8+ years.

(I'm at 10 years)

I hit 20 years this year but online tracking...1996. I'll never forget the time when a poster in October 1997 predicted Titanic would make $540 million. We all laughed at her. Most of us had $250m tops.

This was the OP:
[Velouria] - created 12:59pm Oct 31, 1997 EST
Original Topic Description: Movie overboard! At more than $200 million, James Cameron's Titanic is the most expensive movie ever made. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who are both good young actors but hardly box office gods. Do you think Cameron can repeat the blockbuster success he had with Terminator 2 and True Lies or is this lavish liner doomed to sink into the Abyss?

I've been following box office since early 1997 when the SW re-releases did huge numbers, then Lost World broke the opening record by a lot, and then of course Titanic's run.

Following Box Office for 20 years now - since Jurassic Park.

Read Variety in the mid 90s for my BO fix until like lilac the net became my main source in 1996 - just in time for Twister/MI.

I became interested in Box Office in 1998 (9 years old) after Titanic lit the world on fire. Sometimes checked weekly updates in the news paper until 2001 (12 years old) when Potter1 opened. From that point on I monitored BO performances and lurked at BO sites. Joined BOM in 2004 (15 years old), I have since then been ac active poster. Going on 10 years now.

I guess teenagers are just interested in other things now. Different generation. It s interesting that when most of us were still at BOM jmovies was definitely about the youngest one then. And now he's still the youngest. I am 24 now, I believe I was 16 when I first joined BOM and started following the box office.

A dispute with a classmate over what the highest grossing movie was lead me to box office in 1997. As a 10 year old I had strong feelings that calling Star Wars the #1 movie of all time with the 460mil figure was bullshit, as it took a number of releases to get there--and that Jurassic Park made more in one go. Yes, E.T. also, but Jurassic Park having grossed more was very important.

Good times.

My first forums experience was BoxOfficeReport in 2001, though, as before then I didn't really have any home internet access time.

That's so weird, in a way...like at least half of us was just a bunch of teens when we started at BOM and moved on to WOKJ.
