Sad news indeed. At least he led a full life, though: the ups, the downs, the surprises, the tours, the years as an elder statesman of popular music, etc. His story did not end at 27. And his final years were far from unproductive: he revisited Berlin and further cemented its reputation as a major album far too many people failed to embrace upon its original release, he screwed with people's minds one last time with the bat-shit-insane concept album recorded with Metallica, etc. ![]() |

Transformer is 14th on Amazon's list of music bestsellers. Rock & Roll Animal is 24th, The Essential Lou Reed is 29th, and the Velvet Underground's self-titled album is 32nd. |

RIP. He also collaborated on a good song with The Killers a few years back called Tranquilize. |
