 Re: Kidney stones
I've actually had it since Sunday (or that's when I first noticed it) but this morning has been the worst so far. It literally feels like I'm being stabbed on my left side over and over and over again. Even on painkillers.
Thankfully it's relatively small (2.5 mm) so by all accounts I should be able to pass it on my own, and I've been drinking a ton of water. But...oh my god. Ow.

 Re: Kidney stones
Ouch, my father figure gets them once ever 4-5 years, its like living in hell every time. I really hope it passes soon, from vocal descriptions and online search I'm pretty sure it is among the most painful experiences a person can go through. Good luck Libs

 Re: Kidney stones
I have four broken ribs right now. Previously broke wrist, elbow, hand, l4 and l5 vertebrae. Would rather do all those again than have another kidney stone. Last was 3 days and 4mm. Caught it in the pee funnel. Bloody mess when it flowed out but greatest pressure relief ever.

 Re: Kidney stones
Is it actually true that drinking a lot of water helps to prevent kidney stones?

 Re: Kidney stones
I do drink a lot of water. Not sure what happened here. I'm considering returning to the ER this afternoon, Percocet doesn't even seem to be helping.

 Re: Kidney stones
So...I think I may have passed my stone? I tried a home remedy mixture last night of lemon juice and olive oil I kept hearing about, and this morning something came out in small little fragments. I'm hoping that's it and I don't have to worry about it anymore. The pain pretty much seems to be gone too, other than some residual soreness in my side.

 Re: Kidney stones
Had one before, it was terrible. Worse than breaking my leg, blowing out my knee, etc. Though mine was huge, I forget the weight. Docs thought it needed surgery but it just went out on it's own. Honestly felt like the guy from ALIEN.

It ends up breaking up a bit coming out and looks like a bunch of little sand shards. They can be bloody but not necessarily. If you no longer feel like you have a gunshot wound to your lower back, you are probably in the clear. Did the ER or your doctor tell you if it was just one or if your kidney(s) are filled with them? Mine are filled and every 8 months or so one comes out. The first time it happened, I thought I was going through renal failure and was fairly scared until I got to the hospital. Then they pretty much told me that stones will be occurring throughout my life and best thing is to drink lots of fluids and grin and bear it. A urologist told me to add a teaspoon of lemon to my water. But I never bothered.

 Re: Kidney stones
Is there not an operation where they can take them all out? Seems like something they would do in today's world.

Yes but it is expensive and I have heard that it is very painful and a long recovery period and some people simply do not have the time or resources to go away from work for that long. A kidney stone is maybe 2-3 days and then, so long as you do not destroy a ureter, you are pretty much back to normal. There is a way to blast them with some waves or something too.
