There is going to be a show about it on CNN, this Sunday night. And after reading this story, I'm absolutely fascinated by it.

I've known for a while that marijuana has a lot of health benefits and that by legalizing it, and taxing it, it can become a huge market and cut down on a lot of crime.

Your thoughts?

I am 100% in favor of legalizing pot everywhere although I don't partake myself.

Weed is quite nice in moderation. Though, gotta be careful... It is so potent these days. One hit is usually enough.

I really couldn't care, but I think it might lead to an even further slumped society.

I agree and it should be legal, but it doesn't do much for me.

Same. I actually hate it personally, but don't mind other people doing it at all.

It's like how i feel about cigarettes, i don't like it but as long as people don't smoke it next to me then it's non of my business if they want to.

Ew. Cigarettes should be illegal.

No way.

In order of danger (most to least):

1. Cigarettes
2. Alcohol
3. Weed

What about danger to innocent bystanders. I mean, I know secondhand smoke is a thing, but...

Oh, what a coincidence that I should just happen upon this handy chart linked to in one of today's Cracked articles.

It would be nice if that chart said what the numbers meant.

From the CDC:

Alcohol related deaths per year, excluding homicides and accidents: 42,000
Total alcohol related deaths per year: 80,000

Tobacco related deaths per year: 440,000

It's kind of similar to the gun (tobacco)/knife (alcohol) argument.

It's just a score on a scale of 0-100. Here is a link to the original study -- http://www.sg.unimaas.nl/_OLD/oudelezingen/dddsd.pdf

Excuse me for thinking death is far more serious than "harm".

You really don't. Not when the death outweighs the other by MILES.

Post subject:  Re: Weed.

Another thing to consider is the fact that smoking does not negatively affect the quality of day-to-day life for you or those closest to you (until you get cancer ofc) to anywhere near the degree that inebriating substances will. There's a reason staging a "Tobacco Intervention" isn't really a thing.

You're both fools.

Tobacco is the most dangerous thing in the country. And that's a fact. It kills more people, causes more harm and is EASILY the most addictive of any drug.

I don't disagree with the first or last statements (though technically heroin is more addictive), the second one would be a value judgment, I guess.

Quote:
We now know that while estimates vary, marijuana leads to dependence in around 9 to 10% of its adult users. By comparison, cocaine, a schedule 2 substance "with less abuse potential than schedule 1 drugs" hooks 20% of those who use it. Around 25% of heroin users become addicted.

The worst is tobacco, where the number is closer to 30% of smokers, many of whom go on to die because of their addiction.
