Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro accepted a plea deal today that sends him to prison for life plus "not less than 1,000 years" with no chance of parole for abducting three women and keeping them as sex slaves for over a decade.

"I'm fully aware and I do consent to it," Castro said at a hearing today in a Cuyahoga County court. The deal will spare him from the possibility of facing the death penalty.

"I knew I was pretty much going to get the book thrown at me," Castro, 52, told the court.

The agreement as explained by prosecutors would sentence Castro to no "less than 1,000 years" in prison after completing a first sentence of life with no chance of parole.

"You understand by accepting this plea, you're accepting life without parole," Judge Michael Russo asked Castro. "You'll never leave prison alive."

"Yes, I do," replied Castro.

The former school bus driver was accused of the aggravated murder of a fetus after forcibly causing an abortion in one of his victims that he is accused of impregnating. That charge would have carried the death penalty had he been convicted.

He had previously pleaded not guilty to nearly 1,000 counts of kidnapping, rape and other crimes.

Nobody should ever, EVER be sentenced the death penalty.

Glad he plead guilty. Glad he'll be in prison for the rest of his life.

Why not? Paying for him to be in prison for 35 years is Justice?

Let's just chop off his head and be done with it before he gets cancer and taxpayers end up paying for his million dollar a year healthcare costs.

It's these cases where it's no question, no doubt, he did it. He's guilty...no question. Off with his head and that's it.

Eh, I understand a moral opposition to the death penalty, but I do believe the knowledge you are going to be led into a room and injected with a heart-stopping poison concoction is a harsher punishment than life in prison, which, particularly if he is in solitary in a maximum-security facility, will no doubt ultimately become a relaxing routine for him, one in which he can sleep, read, exercise, masturbate, have consistent meals, etc. It definitely will not be equivalent in any way to the sexual, otherwise physical, and mental torture he inflicted upon the the women during their imprisonment in his home.

But he preferred life in prison to the possible death penalty, based on his plea. So from his perspective, he may see lifetime imprisonment a lesser punishment than the death penalty.

That is probably because he hasn't been raped much before...

You think so? He will most likely be raped day in day out in prison. Seems worse.

I hope the three women heal and enjoy life as much as possible.

As for the abductor, I don't have strong opinion about what to do with him. I wouldn't personally want to punish him as I have no standing to exert justice. If I were to make a decision for the court, I would sentence him to life.
