Who among you partakes in this fad for the occasional lunch? There's an article in the NYT about it today.

I'm proud to say I was doing this before it came super cool and trendy. My go to at Chop't is romaine with carrots, cucumber, tomato, red/green pepper, egg whites and balsamic vinaigrette.

Yes, I know you all wanted to know what kind of salad I get. Don't deny it!

I don't eat salad. I'm not a rabbit.

I like sweetgreen better than Chop't. Chop't offers vats of lettuce...with a dusting of 'other' stuff. My go-to is the shrimp one (Palm beach? Names have probably changed) with double lemon juice instead of dressing

When you're in LA, you should check out Tender Greens.

People need to start to realize that if you get a fully loaded salad from one of these places with cheese, dressing, croutons, etc. that really isn't healthy. It's healthier than a Big Mac but it's not healthy.

Also, if you're gonna have a salad, make it your god damn self. It's so stupid IMO to pay $8+ for a salad.

Is it? What about convenience? At my bill rate, if it costs more than a minute or two of time to make an $8 salad, I'm depleting value. Ok, I don't take in my bill rate though... That said, spending $10 for lunch a day or spending $30 on groceries for lunch a week...it's not the thing to be most budget conscious about. I think the weight consequences of eating out every day are more significant

I once read that in the ones you buy finished there is a huge amount of sugar (in the sauce etc).

So if you make a salad do it by yourself.

Subways used to do a great salad, where you could get any meat and all veggies on it for $5.00. I used to go for the expensive stuff including roast beef and spinach, to make it a chef salad. Which was really good stuff. Now they do a chopped salad, which I haven't tried yet.

they do. most dressings almost defeat the whole purpose of a salad.

Not if you eat salads because you enjoy eating salads.

I gladly eat salads. Many of the low-cal, low fat dressings are delicious.

A lot of the time it just ends with me eating croutons straight out of the bag.

Chopped salad doesn't just mean salad. It's a different way of preparing a salad where all the ingredients are chopped very finely so that it's more of a grounded up consistency and you get a little bit of everything in each bite.

Yes it is. And I understand the taste aspect but do you find it as filling as when eating a salad with bigger pieces? As, I can eat a chopped salad faster since there is less chewing required.

I actually buy bags of croutons for this very purpose.

If my gf gets a salad, I will eat the cheese/croutons/bacon on top.

Because you ordered a salad, not all this delicious extra stuff!

Dude, what's not to like about a salad? They have fresh veggies and a lot of flavor.

Lol, I am a pretty bad Jew when it comes to money. All my friends owe me money...so much in rounds, taxis, etc that I don't keep track of it. I should. Could probably save $2k more a year by being less generous.

I'm above $240. Bill rates in the service industry have somewhat stabilized, though -- $240 is actually a high 'starting' rate at many firms... I think $800 is 'tops' at most places, $600 about typical for a principal-level employee, with a few $1000 guys out there. But idk.
