Huffington Post Article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/0 ... 60867.html

He self-financed this music video and uploaded it to YouTube. It has gotten a lot of attention. I dig it. I purchased the song. You can download it for free if you want or donate whatever you like. I wanted to help him out though. I think the world is ready for a gay country singer and could totally see him being a success. It's time. Hope he makes it big.

Good but not great.

Plus, country is like the least likely to accept an openly gay singer.

It's weird. I thought the song was pretty good (but yeah, not GREAT) when I watched the video. But listening to my download of the song it plays much better. Would play great on the radio, IMO.

What's his sexuality have to do with it?

Gays will never be accepted as normal if EVEN GAYS cannot control themselves and not mention sexuality.

Just stating a fact. He is gay. The song is about a guy in love with another guy.

I made it all the way through 90 seconds before I called it a day. Thanks, country music, but no thanks.

He's hot.

Interestingly, Nashville started a storyline like this at the tail end of the first season.

^L O L I was about to say the same thing. Like henwould have trouble finding someone looking like that. The song doesn't really sound that country to me but it's decent.

Because there are no gay country fans? :P I have a friend that loves country music and he's gay. It's not my favorite genre but I do like some songs.

No, cuz Country is like the biggest anti gay genre (it's the Republican of the music genres). It's the only genre where I know ZERO gay singers.

It doesn't have to be though.

You mean besides this guy and an open lesbian (I forget her name)?

In a world where Frank Ocean can score some major recognition, I don't think there's necessarily any mainstream genre that a gay person absolutely cannot do and succeed at.

Agreed.

Also, I'd say rap might be even worse than country. If nothing else homophobia is at least equal in both genres.

With hip hop, though, there is the "hipster" friendly, artier side of the genre, and this is largely where a Frank Ocean type figure roosts, and the Jay-Z types come 'round now and then in search of a bit of credibility boosting critical catnip.

I s'pose Jeff Tweedy or the Jayhawks might have this dude open a few shows for them for the uplifting liberal novelty factor, but anyone who believes he will be conquering the country charts and playing stadium shows with Chesney and Hank Jr. is delusional.

The way I see it: there is far more overt homophobia in mainstream hip hop because of the macho posturing impulse. I do not associate, say, Eric Church with homophobia as an individual, but at the end of the day, he plays to a widely conservative and therefore not very gay friendly crowd.

They talked about him on the Wendy Williams Show. It's 10 minutes in.

And ABC News:

He seems really likable. And it's sad his parents sent him to reparative therapy. I'm glad they seem to support him now.

The video on his YouTube page has over 1 Million views.

He doesn't have that country voice. Sounds like a mismatch.

I think he will go the boyband-go-solo route. Think Boyzone and Westlife. Ronan Keating released a few country-esque singles and found success with it. And Westlife is basically country cover boyband.

Which is about ten minutes too much of Wendy Williams.

Country music is anti-gay?

Hmm, perhaps I should like it more.
