As Hitchcock said, you have to show yourself as worthy to get on in the business. You have something, but as yet you're lacking in the "show yourself" department.
How about sending studios your script...it's a no brainer really. Or you could just leave it on your laptop. I'm sure you'll be huge with it staying on your laptop.

 Re: Career In Filmmaking
Screenwriters generally do not cast actors. I can see that your one-man show isn't going to attract the big studios.
So far off to a bad start.

 Re: Career In Filmmaking
I just directed and shot a spec pilot script for NBC yesterday. I didn't write it though. Usually I like to write as well, first things first, have people read it, and keep tightening it. Maybe send in to some screenplay competitions.
You can't just send scripts to studios, no one will read them, and those that do go through about 20 a day. Some places can offer a free drop off, but from my experience it's more of a waste. If you can win some awards, then look for an agent, copyright it, and see what you can do from there.

Night/Nolan/Peter Jackson route and just make it myself, very low budgeted, and then try and screen it at some festivals & see if its gets picked up or whatever. I guess im looking for advice on that works.

You might need some help in problem areas like sound, lighting and music.

 Re: Career In Filmmaking
Well I've raised money for a pilot of my own that I'm still trying to sell, there are a couple of ways to go about raising funds. Getting in good with some production people that can do multiple things is the best way to for lower budgets.
For instance I own a professional grade camera, my own editing studio, lights etc now, but when I was doing my pilot there are three important things that help determine how much it'll cost. Also the length of how long the shoot will be will also be a determining factor. If you want, shoot me a pm with your email and I can give you a little more info, ways to cut corners, and looking at a reasonable way to shoot something. I am also behind shooting something because even if say you shoot a scene, you shoot something really well and then you have something to show people and even if they don't want to make that film, then your in and maybe they want to use you for something else.
People always forget that Tarantino's first first film was a real mess that he ultimately scrapped because he had no idea what the hell he was doing. He focused then on writing to raise funds to make Reservoir dogs.

I wish you luck, but seriosuly, you need to be more professional about this otherwise your "great idea" will be wasted on some trashy shit production.

 Re: Career In Filmmaking
Actually generally speaking, anyone can make a movie, or write a book, motivation is about 90% of it.

Harry Warden wrote: Excel wrote: Draft 1 of script is done. anybody wishing to read it - i'd lve feedback! What genre is the scripted movie? It a coming of age romance-drama. A seemingly normal recent college graduate begins a steamy affair with seemingly normal suburban housewife. They grow close, and find that not only are they both not quite as average as they initially suspected, but they actually have a great deal in common despite being very different people from very different places at very different stages of their lives. In the end, they teach each other valuable lessons about life, love, and happiness. Script clocked in at about 105 scenes & just over 30,000 words. It would likely be in the 100-110 minute range as a film.
