Britney Spears' seems to have confirmed her presence as a marketing behemoth. She was recently named one of Pepsi's best investments in the company history in terms of sales returns, and her first fragrance has proved more popular than any other celebrity-turned-perfumer to date; outselling J.Lo and Paris Hilton by a long shot. "Curious" broke perfume industry records when it went on shelves late 2004 in America; the fragrance had substantial marketing as it rolled out to even better sales. Its estimated first year sales are around $40m-60m in the US alone. It alone hoisted Elizabeth Arden's final profit quarter of last year up by 49.6% to $31.7m. Last year Arden did $21.2m in the same period. It grossed a net of $323m up 9% The first among the range of Britney-backed products to be churned out over the next two years, Curious debuted September 14, 2004 at Macy's in New York and hit the ground running, selling beyond expectations in department stores throughout the U.S. “Curious was launched in U.S. department stores in September and has exceeded both retailer and industry expectations,†says a source from Elizabeth Arden. “It is currently the number one ranked fragrance in U.S. department stores.†Elizabeth Arden's selected manufacturing plants had to install new furnances to produce bottles at a faster rate as they spent very little time in the warehouses due to unprecedented demand. Not only that, but as well as boasting one of the best perfume launches in history- Curious is selling shitloads offshores too. In New Zealand, Curious lodged sales over 6x higher than the previous large perfume launch; and in Australia it was the biggest launch ever Its breaking records in Ausie and seemingly the UK too where its just rolled out across the country. As well as her raunchy and suggestive advertisement about sex getting banned until at least 7.30pm in the UK; Spear's perfume ads are getting plastered on windows of nearly every major perfume store in the country; retailing at £20 cheapest; and its already selling out in many stores. Its no surprise that "Curious" is shifting so well in the UK, where Spears is truly resurgent inspite of a press mauling - her "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative" is her third best selling album there to date, with sales of above 750,000 copies. P.S - I bought this stuff as a present for my mum and sister; and they love it ; all my chickfriends [even those who loathe britney] are actually getting excited about buying it after trying it out at my house - ive never seen such hype over perfume before. But this stuff was sold out in 3 stores i went to. |

I've never really smelled it. What does it smell like? The commercials for it are very intriguing, and make me want to smell it. |

No it smells really nice; very feminine - not trashy or fruity, its like...a musky vanilla. It smells like an upperclass womans perfume - its one of the nicest ones if whiffed actually. I dont really care what i wear although its usually Joop, Valentino or Hugo Boss. |

My sister went out wearing it tonight, and both she and my mother have had compliments about it; so i guess its quite popular in that respect. The ads campaign is second to none - although i do prefer Catherine Zeta Jones in the "Provocative Woman" campiagn for Arden. Shes a beautiful woman full of class - and comes across very mysterious in the trailers. |

I love the Scarlett Johanson advert, she looks really amazing in it. The Beyonce adverts kind of fail - they try and be minimalistic but end up coming out slightly corny. id rank the perfume adverts as 1. Elizabeth Arden - Provocative Woman 2. Britney Spears/ Elizabeth Arden - Curious 3. Scarlett Johansson/ CK - Eternity Moment 4. Beyonce / CK - True Star 5. Jennifer Lopez - Glow Elizabeth Arden are one of the most innovative perfume advertisers out there - and their rocketing sales tell that tale all too well. Kudos to them for signing Zeta Jones as their frontwoman - she brings the class and starpower needed for such a brand. [btw dig the smiley :wohoo] |
