Go back and read the comment again... I said nothing about Toronto being in the Pacific Northwest, I mearly stated that regional identity (which is Victoria/Vancouver) is more important than national identity.

WoW. Does everyone think us Americans are like ... moronic? Anyone can go on TV pick out a couple of morons, ask them questions like "what is europe" and laugh when they make a fool of themselves. For the most part, educated America tends to at least know up from down! At least we aren't the British who don't even know what freaking D-Day is ... have they never seen Saving Ryans Privates or what . But yes, we know Toronto exists.

Maybe I should have asked non- North Americans. I don't mean the question to be insulting though. The reason why I'm asking is because I'm not sure where Toronto exactly stands in comparison to other cities. Honestly, I mean, is it on par with Chennai (Madras), Santiago, and San Diego, or Mumbai (Bombay), Buenos Aires, and Chicago?

Toronto? Sounds familiar....I can't place it though. As far as the general awareness here, no its not on the level of Chicago because unfortunately no one knows what a good university UofT is, and I know there are several other large universities there. It doesn't come across as a bastion of culture or academia (Montreal gets that), and Chicago gets that due to its Bauhuas past, etc. I have a feeling people think its a bit more industrial. If I had to compare it to another city, I'd say Milan.

Canada doesn't really have much of a separate identity in the US. Same language and culture ticks, and even, in my case, I consider British Columbia more like my state (Washington) than my state compared to say... Arkansas. And I know that nationalism aside, most of the Victoria/Vancouver residents I know think the same. Meaning, they don't see themselves as "Americans" but to us, the culture of "Pacific Northwest" in many cases is more important.

I live less than an hour's drive away from the Canadian Border, so I am quite aware of Toronto.

Good comedy people come from there. I'm sure I'd enjoy visiting.
