TYLER, TEXASâ€â€A 25-year-old Texas man has been charged with capital murder and is being held on a $2 million bond after he allegedly killed his 21-year-old girlfriend and tried to boil and eat her body parts.
Christopher Lee McCuin allegedly abducted Jana Shearer Friday night and allegedly killed her by repeatedly beating her in the head with a blunt object. Police say that after the beating, McCuin moved the body in his pickup.
Police said that about 9 a.m. Saturday, McCuin appeared at his mother’s house and told her and her boyfriend to look in their garage. They found the woman’s body which police say had been mutilated, fled the scene and contacted police. About an hour later, McCuin dialed 911 from his mother’s house, reportedly told the dispatcher that he had killed his girlfriend and that he was boiling her body parts.
According to Smith County Sheriff J.B. Smith, McCuin “led the dispatcher to believe he may have been eating flesh but we are not sure at this timeâ€Â. The sheriff said that the woman’s body was “lacerated, with chunks out of her face and upper torso areaâ€Â. Police said that when they arrived at McCuin’s mother’s residence, they found the mutilated body of Shearer, a pot of boiling water on the stove and human flesh on a plate on the kitchen table.
Police say that McCuin had been at Shearer’s residence on Friday night and that he apparently took her from the residence against her will. After he allegedly killed her, he drove to the home of his estranged wife, arriving between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Saturday, broke into the house and became involved in an altercation with William Veasley, 42, who was stabbed several times in the shoulder area. McCuin was still at the home at the time police arrived but escaped, later appearing at his mother’s house.
Veasley is being treated at a local hospital.
When police arrived at his mother’s home after receiving McCuin’s 911 call, there was a brief standoff before he emerged from the house, carrying a knife. He was taken into custody without further incident.
According to court records, McCuin has previous convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated. At the time of his arrest, he was wanted on a felony retaliation warrant.
