Wow! I've finally got a laugh from you! I can rest in peace now. I don't give comedy shows, I just say what I have to say. Ripper wrote: I didn't realize I had to ask your permission before deciding to disagree with someone.
You don't but don't attack someone for not liking something and giving his reason for not liking that thing. Zig Hail der Ripper! Ripper wrote: When you come into a thread and go "I had <isnsert topic of disussion here? because its popular," you have to expect people to take you to task on the issues.
What the hell are you talking about? "I had <insert (not isnsert) topic of discussion (not disussion) here? because it's popular,"? I think you are trying to say I hate <insert topic of discussion here> because it's popular. Is that right? Well then let me reply to the latter one that I had tot dissect from your original post because it was done so sloppy. Mr. X said he hated the hype that was brought with g-mail and didn't agree with it. He backed up his opinion. Ripper wrote: If Mr. X expressed a opinion besides "what I like is great, and what I don't like is just hype," then I'd see your point.
I don't recall him saying anything of the likes of what I don't like is just hype.

It seems to me X, that no matter how good GMail could be, you refuse to use it because of the hype. Correct?
Assuming I am correct, that leads me to believe that if the same exact service were not hyped to the point it is currently, then you would use it, perhaps embracing the change and making threads about GMail invitesm beacue of the mere fact that other people don't hype it.
I think that's shit, personally. I mean no offense (as I hope you know. I'd hate to create some sort of dispute with a poster I respect as much as you), but that is alos just my opinion.

Hating something because it's not built up to have such huge expectations from people is fine by me. Look at titanic, people said it was such an epic and grandieur porportions but to me it was a mediocre movie. That's why I hate it because people think it's so great but it's not. Switch titanic with g-mail and you get the picture.

Hype can inevitably lead to hatred. Right now, I just don't like the hype of Gmail. If I give in and use it, my expectations could be destroyed. And, I didn't say it was only the hype. I only use e-mail for writing letters, it doesn't matter what bells and whistles there are. So, I'll be let down, unless there's something HUGE about it. Same as Titanic (like Rusty said). I was let down big time. I may have enjoyed it more if everyone didn't praise it so damn much. And like I said again, I don't care if others use it. If they like it, let 'em like it!

But you actually saw Titanic. There are lots of things I avoid due to hype, i don;t go around proclaiiming opinions on them , given that I choose due to hype to avoid them.
Mr. X wants to avoid gmail due to hype fine, but then he really doesn't have much of an opinion on how good or bad gmail is, as he has decided to not to use it.
Its like the people who bash Titanic without actually seeing the movie.

He has yet to give a reason for not liking gmail beyond the magic hype word, whcih he defined as advertising.
He has never used it, which is fine, he doesn't have to. but as someone who never used the service he has know valid opinion on how it compares to any other email program.
If hype, i.e advertisign is a reason to hate something, then one would have to hate jsut about every product or service on the bloody planet.

Well, I didn't just start a thread on how hyped Gmail is. There's a thread here on Gmail, I posted. Really, this thread proves that Gmail has far too much hype, because a few people have proclaimed their love for it. In case you hadn't noticed (oh, but I know you did), I'm not a fan of hype.
Oh, and I don't think Gmail has to be used to find out its features. I've come to the conclusion of a simple interface, 1 gig of space for e-mail storage, and... that's it, really. If there was more, you would tell me more. As far as I'm concerned, that isn't worth the time and confusion of creating ANOTHER e-mail account, just for writing letters to people (which is all I do, WHICH I said already, which I believe I'm allowed to talk about, especially in a thread about Gmail).

AGAIN, Ripper, I have. I only use e-mails for writing letters. I don't need simple interfaces, complex interfaces, 1 MB of space or 1 GB of space.
For the record (if anyone at home is keeping score), I have told people not to use Gmail a grand total of ZERO times, as well as told people not to talk about it ZERO times (unless you include the joke where I said I would sock the next person to say "Hey, anyone want a Gmail invite?"), whereas you and others have told me I shouldn't voice my opinion on it in a thread about it. And don't give me that "don't knock it 'till ya try it" BS. It's e-mail. It's simple. It's a whole boatload of free space. There isn't anything to try.

I hate germany because my grand-father had heart problems after ww2 and later died from that. Does that mean that I don't have the right to hate germany because I've never been to it? I have every damn right to hate them and X has every damn right to hate g-mail. It's what makes democracy so great.

I get that you have no interest in, tht's fine, but to make proclamations like "No one needs a gig of space" is like saying you people don't need this. Well actually I do need a gig of space, my students email pe projects and its nice to be abelt save all theri emails and not have to wrry about my inbox being full.
My point is this, there are many things I avoid due to hype, I don't go around going the hype is sutpid its just <insert hyped thing here>.
I wouldn;t have harped on you so much if you had not brought up how you watch tv shows that have no hype, which is the most bs statement I have read at these forums. Alias gets more hype and media coverage then half the shows on tv.
Beofre you amde that comment I was just trying to figure why you were so anti-gmail, and I got my answer.

And what answer did you find, Ripper? And, the TV shows thing was only an example. But, most TV shows get lots of media coverage. Shows like Alias need the media coverage, cause they only average about 8 million viewers a week, whereas Desperate Housewives averages 24 million. Heck, Housewives still gets even more media coverage.

Well, apparently (from the sounds of it), I really have, only it was masked by SOOOOO many distractions on Hotmail. Seriously, it's e-mail. Why does everyone make a big deal? I only voiced my opinion on it, in a thread designated for it. Where am I wrong here? I don't see how anyone's points are more valid. It's not like I'm saying I never will drive a car because everyone has one. THAT would be incredibly stupid. But e-mail is just e-mail. Nothing new, really, especially with the supposed simple Gmail.

At first I thought iwas merely this hype issue, but after some back adn forth I seemed ot have arrived at a real reason. that you don't use email for much so you don't see the point of another email account. Which is quite logical. But you brought this bit about hype, and at first it made your arguement sound aking to the "WE never seen Titanic" but we hate it backwagon.
I never claimed Alias did not need the media coverage/advertising, you were the one that claime dyou watche dhypeless tv shows.
Irregarldess of the shows need for media coverage, it is still adverstiing and thus hype. I didn't see Alias to the infamous Superbowl episode (you want hype there was some major hyoe for that episode), but before I show the show I read an article abotu Alias in EW at least every other week.
There have ceritanly been show that have not gotten much advertising, Alias ain't one of them.

Aside from the fact that my e-mail, AOL, MSN, and Yahoo names are all listed, no.

I am PinkPanther's bitch! But, I understand what you mean about Alias. I'm more or less stacking hype AND ratings into one, when that's not entirely fair. It gets plenty of one, and little of the other... sadly. Here's hoping it goes BOOM and skyrockets in the ratings tomorrow night!

The difference between that would be that Gmail didn't kill his father. He's merely displaced by the amount of people shoving it down his throat, which I understand.
I still highly recommend trying it X. An extra email account is always handy. I myself have somewhere near six.
