I got an invite last night (from Talib Kweli, because I'm cool like that ), but it says I don't have any invites.

Kindle Fire tablet for $199! Think I'll get one. The silk browser looks interesting too, but from work perspective, it does mean we'll have to support another browser on top of all the existing ones.

The "cloud accelerated" feature of the browser is a pretty cool concept.
Wonder when they'll do speed testing?

I always hated flash on the web ... the entertainment industry however did not.

 Re: The Tech thread
Facebook just bought Instagram for $1 billion. $1b! That's a lot for a single app, even one as popular as Instagram. Think they only have like 9 employees.

 Re: The Tech thread
Think Draw Something started the trend when they were sold for $180m after the app was created for like less than a month. The apps and anything related to social are now certainly getting overvalued. Wonder what Pinterest will be valued at now given they're already the 3rd most popular social site after Facebook and Twitter.

 Re: The Tech thread
I just switched to a an Android device recently and I put some songs on an microsd card, but I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the device play the whole album instead of me having to select the next song each time.

I just figured it out. D'uh. I just went to the stock music player on the device and all the songs that were on my microsd card were listed there and I could select album and play them one after another and what not.

 Re: The Tech thread
Question: is Nexus 4's price w/o contract? $299 for 8gb and $349 for 16gb?
I like the phone. But no LTE? Why? It just seems like such a random omission for a company that tries to stay well ahead in the specs and features department.

 Re: The Tech thread
No LTE was so that they can control the updates and Verizon and AT&T couldn't muddy the phone. It's a horrible trade off, and I think it's awful they had to do it, but it is what it is. $299 for an unlocked, off contract Nexus 4 is still unbelievable.
I personally am pre-ordering a Nexus 10. I think it's better than an iPad, for $100 cheaper, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

 Re: The Tech thread
Not according to Google: Quote: Android head Andy Rubin calls the lack of LTE a "tactical issue," and cites cost and battery life as major concerns with devices that have to support multiple radios. "A lot of the networks that have deployed LTE haven't scaled completely yet — they're hybrid networks [...] which means the devices need both radios built into them," he said. "When we did the Galaxy Nexus with LTE we had to do just that, and it just wasn't a great user experience." But the reality now is that many LTE devices — including the iPhone 5 and the LG Optimus G, which shares common hardware with the Nexus 4 — use larger batteries and newer, more efficient chips to balance the power draw from LTE. http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/29/3569 ... ave-4g-lteWhich is bullshit. Apple managed to pull it off. Even S3 has LTE, no? At the expense of carriers loading crap on the phones, yes, but that didn't seem to be the concern here. At least according to them.

 Re: The Tech thread
It is bullshit, but they won't call out their carrier partners in the news, that wouldn't help anything.
