I think that like at the Oscars, films that are perceived to be of overall higher quality also have a better shot in the tech categories - like Birdman, Gone Girl, Budapest or Whiplash.

The biggest winners of the night, IMO, are Obvious Child, Edge of Tomorrow and Snowpiercer.

I think the only categories that seem set are Actress and Supporting Actor. I'm expecting a Picture/Director split. I can't believe KJ managed to snub Nolan L O L

But looking at the awards as a whole, it's pretty much all Oscar movies that are nominated. Just different picks, but all from the same films.

People seem to have voted on the basis that Interstellar was a certainty, so they voted for others to give them a chance, and then Interstellar gets forgotten and loses out.

Heck no.

I'm actually happy with the nominations. All the nominations are in my top films of the year. It's just a tad disappointing that since we are not the Oscars or the national board of review, we didn't take the opportunity to nominate non-Oscar films more. I thought Guardians may have gotten into the BP category. Or Interstellar would have slipped into the BD category. No mention of Calvary or Blue Ruin or John Wick despite all of those being well-received films. Yet again KJ just bends over and delivers the Oscar line-up of praised films. No surprise nominations, like, at all.

Because it's not that, you know, great? It's funny enough, but not hilarious or anything. It's really nothing special. But to each their own.


I just watched The Judge tonight. Had I seen it prior I would have given Duvall a nomination for Supporting Actor and might have even nominated RDJ.

The most impressive performance is probably Under the Skin. Not a financial hit or a mainstream product at all, and certainly not an awards contender, yet it receives four nominations here at KJ. Pretty good going.

The most pathetic performance is Selma and The Theory of Everything. They should have received more than just two nominations between them. Then there's the total snubs of American Sniper and The Imitation Game. Kind of strange, but not totally surprising either.

It is a shame that Calvary, Blue Ruin and John Wick didn't receive any love. I would put those forward for the most overlooked film of the year.

I'm glad the very few films I nominated (Whiplash, Birdman, Boyhood, Under the Skin, and The Lego Movie) received nominations in the respective categories. The only one that missed was Let's Be Cops.

I just saw Nightcrawler. I wouldn't have nominated it for loads of awards, so it's not that much of a shame that I didn't see it before the deadline. But I would have nominated it for Best Actor, Cinematography and Screenplay, two of which it got without my help. But I will be supporting it as much as I can in the final round of voting. Hmm, but it's up against strong competition, so I don't know yet. We'll see.
