You should always have a story ready about your hat or shirt, maybe even shoes, or at least anything that is interesting about your outfit. Than at least you can counter with something she is wearing (Not like a corny pick up line on how that would look great on your floor) but something that tells her she has style too. Also parties are full of topics for conversation: Who do you know here? Where are you from? What do you do? What do you drink? Can I get you another? Just keep it simple, if a girl will walk over to say hi, that's the hardest part. Then ask more questions than answers, and keep eye contact. It'll all work out.

I think everyone uses pick up lines. Telling a girl she is so beautiful, I hope I get to see you again is still a line even if its not corny. They're just as cliche as the corny ones, yet both still seem to produce results.

The best pick up lines are ones that are not pick-up lines at all - just normal conversation. You have to build up to the stuff she wants to hear and not come out and say it first up.

Chip - try online dating. It will take the sting out of having to walk up to a girl and ask her out because you know what you are both there for. If you get rejected, its only online so it wont hurt so much or feel embarrassing. Sure you will still have to meet in person, but by then if you 'click' in your chats, it will be that much easier.

I have a New Years Dilemma. I never usually like to have a date, as I consider it to be the easiest occasion to pick up girls outside of a wedding, but this year is a little different. I have a really beautiful girl that really wants to get together, but she doesn't like the party that I'm going to (Some 10 year old high school feud bull shit kind of thing) These are really some of my closer friends, and having lived away for 3 years, it makes it a little more special. And I know that this is one of those "feuds" that is really in her head, my friends aren't asses and they certainly don't care about it anymore. The girl is pretty awesome though, and it seems if we don't do something together, she won't do anything. It's a real conundrum
