Best Comedy
Laughter is the best medicine when down but not all movies can bring that emotion back at that right time. 2011 has been specially gifted in this section but here are the few that will surely rejuvenate that smiling face well before they near completion.

A young writer when diagnosed with rare spinal cancer, takes help of his best friend, mother and a young therapist to learn what are the most important things in his life - 50/50
A messed-up, lovelorn, broke ex-pastry chef must serve as her best friend's Maid of Honor while bluffing to compete with one rich bridesmaid, earning love and friendship in the process - Bridesmaids
Carl seeks to become a player with the help of Jacob, when asked for a divorce by his wife Emily. Through various misadventures Carl learns a few secrets about his family, his impact on Jacob, life and Love - Crazy, Stupid, Love
Nick, Dale and Kurt hate their bosses when they are verbally abused, sexually exploited and torchered by a psychopath respectively. Taking their hatred to a new level they really hire a murder consultant for these deeds - Horrible Bosses
A midnight stroll alone over a tag-along vacation in Paris takes Paul back in 20's where he lives his dream and falls in love, distancing him from the woman he's about to marry - Midnight in Paris

I voted for 50/50.

Bridesmaids predictably won, but a solid showing for the other films, I'd say.

Midnight in Paris actually gave Bridesmaids a good run until late.

Honestly, to me Bridesmaids must be one of the most overrated comedies of the past few years. Amusing, yes...but not all-out amazing as so so many make it out to be.

Best Horror Film

Last year might have not been the biggest year for great mainstream horror. The happier it makes me to see several small productions that have played just in a few theatres being recgnized as the nominees at this year’s WOKJ Motion Picture Awards – The Woman and Tucker & Dale vs. Evil. On the other hand, there is also of course the horror sensation that was Insidious. Back in 2005, at the first ever WOKJ Motion Picture Awards James Wan’s debut film Saw won the Best Horror award…can Insidious repeat? Despite their relative disappointment at the box-office, the WOKJ posters also liked Scream 4 and Fright Night and nominated the sequel/remake (respectively) for the Best Horror award.

To recap, the nominees are:

The Woman
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
Scream 4
Insidious
Fright Night

And the winner is....

Best Art Direction
Storytelling and movie watching experience can be enhanced with immersive set pieces real or imaginative that are directed at your cinema hall.

The initial black and white holding cinema halls, older houses, streets, motorcars were given a new life in The Artist
Hogwarts turned into battlefield, a myseterious white clad train station and Gringotts bank from deep inside brought together in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2
The Glass House, Paper cut dragons, a spiral clock tower over a different kinda train station were dreamed togethere in Hugo
The spy meeting backgrounds and meeting places, plus the different locations and interrogation scenes awaken to pinch your senses in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
The war machines, those pesky barriers over the battlefields, luscious landscapes from different villages before and after the impact were sewn together in War Horse
