I have a laptop that needs $600 to fix, or another that needs $800 your welcome to either.

I've decided that jujubee's evil apple links downloaded a virus into you're machine Snrub and thats the cause of all problems.

You did that on purpose.

Pretty crappy advertising considering he can't fix it.

Thank you very muchr, Timayd. I'll take them off your hands for the princely sum of $1400 made payable to Snrub.

I blame you entirely, Gullimont. Despite the fact that you had absolutely nothing to do with my PC buggering up.

List the files in the following directory:

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc

also open up the hosts file (you will need to manually do it with Notepad)

It should look like this:

Quote:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2006 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

Disable WEP from your router and take it down to "out of the box" settings. If you are only having a problem resolving KJ (and KJ alone) then the IP is blocked at...

1. The software level, either through the hosts file or through an alternate security program on your computer. Hosts will block IPs from all over, not just IE, Opera. Your Firefox pages may be the remainder of cache.

2. The router level, which you also have control over.

3. The IP level, wherein you would have to ask your service provider if there is any IP block for a specific range.

Also, did you do a complete Windows reinstall (I mean "format c:" type install) or a Windows "repair" install?

What we're looking for here is a "switch" that may have been flipped by you or another software program unintentionally (or purposely if it's some weird spyware). If you did a repair install of Windows then it MIGHT not change the settings back.

I also want you to go to a Command Prompt (or Start> Run> cmd) and run the following command...

tracert http://www.worldofkj.com

and post the results.

This is the best thread I've read in a while.

Leave it to Snrub to go out with a BANG!

 I think Snrub should leave now anyway, just because there's nowhere to go but down.

Hooray, Roo to the rescue!

In drivers/etc, there's HOSTS, UMHOSTS.SAM, NETWORKS, PROTOCOL, and SERVICES. I've opened hosts, and it says exactly what you've quoted bar the bottom line ("::1 localhost"). Mine stops at 127.0.0.1.

As to disabling my router and taking it down to out-of-the-box settings, I'm reluctant to do so as, at present, it's spoofing my laptop's MAC address, which is the only reason I can get my PC to connect to the internet at all. Once I reset it, I have no idea how to do it again.

I think I did a repair install of Windows...

And finally, typing in tracert http://www.worldofkj.com brings up the following:

Unable to resolve target system name http://www.worldofkj.com

I don't care for your username. its highly gay and sounds ambiguously like a sport involving a New Zealander and a sheep.

I skimmed through the technical stuff so this might've been already recommended, but did you try opening it in *gulp* Internet Explorer?
