 Favourite 'Death=Icon' Icon People that were catapulted into icon status because of death. Who is your favourite? and who would you say is the biggest icon? Taken from the world at the peak of their fame, they were made into icons as a result. Mainly this applies to stars that were fairly young when they died. People like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were not included. The former was not an icon in the way that I am using it, and the latter was an icon before his death. His reputation was ruined anyway. I only included people that their death is the reason for them becoming an icon, not just a celebrity or star. And while I think people know who River Phoenix is, he's not exactly an 'icon' in the way that someone like Dean or Monroe are. Re: Favourite 'Death=Icon' Icon I went with Elvis. I just don't really care for the other choices. Bruce Lee and McQueen are incredibly overrated. Monroe is one sexy lass, but so are tons of other girls. Nice rack, though. In many ways she i the perfect woman. But Elvis made some great tunes.

The Bell Jar is among the most beloved American novels of the 20th century, and her poetry is widely studied and earned her a posthumous Pulitzer. But, again, Sylvia Plath is very famous. Anyone who is even partly engaged with the literary world knows her. You cannot just disregard iconic novelists and poets from the equation because you aren't an avid reader. Deserved or not, I would say Sid Vicious is almost the king of the death-icons. He was not a talented musician nor a very notable songwriter, yet he is arguably the most famous punk-rock musician ever. And he truly flamed out young, whereas Steve McQueen died at the age of 50 and Elvis at the age of 42. (Both, on another note, older than John Lennon, shot dead at the age of 40.)

Re: Favourite 'Death=Icon' Icon I hold the term 'icon' in quite a high regard, and I do not use it lightly. If we add every Dick and Harry, the term will be diluted. So I'd rather keep the choices at a few with an 'Other' option for if people disagree, rather than try to squeeze everyone in there.
