I literally had the worst service ever today and I had to bitch about it. Seriously, get this shit. I still can't believe it happened.

So my best friend who lives in Jersey is up for a few days because she's on vacation. We decided to go to Tully's (it's a local place, it's legit my favorite place to eat). Here are the things our server did wrong.

1. She ran up to the table and said "I'll be right there." OK, fine. You're busy (even though you only have 4 tables. I was a server. That isn't busy), I understand. The issue was when she came back, she was ruder than hell and didn't even introduce herself.

2. We got loaded cheese fries as an appetizer. They come with ranch. When we ordered them we asked for an extra side (I'm sick, so I didn't want to share). It wasn't on there (could be her fault, but it could not be, so whatever) but it literally took her ten minutes to bring the ranch to the table. She was in the section FOUR times before she brought a little cup of ranch out. Really?

3. The food literally came out four minutes after the appetizer. Kind of annoying, but whatever. It just pissed me off she was walking around, didn't ask how our food was and still didn't bring the ranch for ten minutes.

4. She never refilled our drinks once.

Now, I'm not the kind of person who complains. If I have bad service, I usually just don't leave a good tip and if I really am annoyed or pissed off, I'll call whatever 1-800 number they have and just tell them, but I was just really pissed off because she flat out was being a lazy worker and not caring about her tables. So the manager ended up coming to our table in the middle of the meal and asked how everything was. I explained I wanted to talk to them and started it out with asking if the girl (whom, I still didn't know her name, she still has yet to introduce herself) was new because if she was, I wouldn't have flipped about it. He said no, so I explained what happened and that I understood because I was a server at Applebee's but she just wasn't presenting good customer service.

Right after her left, she came and dropped off the check. I'm assuming he talked to her between the time she dropped the check off and picked up the bill because when she came back to grab the money, she was quite rude. Whatever. She got bitched at, I'll deal with it. What really FUCKING PISSED ME OFF, was when she dropped the change off she said all sarcastically "thanks guys! Have a GREAT day and I will see you sometime at Applebee's!" Excuse me bitch? Don't be a rude bitch to me just because you got in trouble for not doing your job. I was literally shocked. So I went back to the manager and told him how disrespectful this girl was and I go there all the time and have never been treated like this and the entire dinner was pretty much fucked up since we felt like such an inconvenience to our server. He said he would take care of it and took my name and number because he wasn't the general manager and he would make sure he got back to me.

AHH. I just had to rant. Seriously. It's just one of those things you can't believe happened but it actually did. It reminded me of Justin Long in Waiting when he gave back the money to the customer because they barely gave him a tip and he said they could use that more than he could.

You got your food faster than you expected and that's an issue?

You should be thanking her. Sometimes I've waited 40 minutes for my main course. And since when do waiters introduce themselves? Must be an American thing, because everywhere I've been that doesn't happen.

You don't bring out food four minutes after you get an appetizer. If the appetizer will come out that quickly and the food that people order as their main course comes out that quick, you put the order in a few minutes later. It's kind of common sense.

And that was barely even the point of this.

They at least say "hi my name is _______ and I'll be taking care of you today." They don't just say "hey, what do you want?"

As far as I recall its always:

Hi, I'm so and so and I'll be your server today. Can I get you anything to drink?

Sorry you had a server with an attitude. The manager on duty should have discussed things after you left.

Yeah, I usually say "hi folks, I'm Charlie and I'll be taking care of you tonight. Can I start you out with anything to drink" and tell them a few select beverages that we carry.

Being a server is a hard job, despite what people think and I give a lot of leeway to servers because I know how it is but it was just inexcusable. I definitely agree that the manager should have talked to her after I left, not right after I spoke with him.

Does only one waiter take care of any one table in US restaurants?

In China, and in the UK actually, any waiter can help any table. I just see a waiter and I call him/her over. So having to introduce yourself is silly. I suppose they want tips, though. That's the difference.

I don't tip.

You should've bitched to the manager once you got your bill or while you were paying, not when the server hasn't even dropped off your bill. Come on, man! lol

Yes, it's usually one person who takes care of you.

You don't tip. That's how people make their living you know. But I can't say I'm surprised.

Tipping or gratuity for the most part is a Western/North American thing. It's not required or mandatory in other countries or cultures to tip. For others, tipping is downright offensive.

In the US, it might be. But in other countries, people aren't treated as slaves so tips are mandatory. In other countries, waiters and waitresses get a minimum wage which is enough to live on.

Did you tip at your visit to Tully's? ...even though you had the "worst service ever"? I bet you did. The joke is on you if you did.

Well it depends tipping a very small amount in a developing country makes you into a God really.

I was at a Pizza Pizza in India and the bill was 1050 Rupees, I gave 1100 and said keep the change...

I've had a similar encounter here in China. I tipped a taxi driver once and he was over the moon.

It was more the fact that she spazzed after she got bitched at? Slamming my change on the table and threatening me? Please.

This is my ultimate restaurant peeve. I was a waitress when I was a teenager and I learned quickly NEVER to bring the food out right after the appetizer.

It happens all the time when I go out to eat and sort of makes my blood boil every time irrationally. lol

I have to say that after reading your story, though, you got off kind of easy. That's certainly not a good restaurant experience, but I once went to a restaurant in college where my friends and I saw the waiter spit in my friend's drink and mix it around with a spoon. Among other things. Yeah.

How did you know that? Did they do it in plain sight?

Without exaggeration, yes. Not at our table but by the bar area.

Well, that is shocking. I hope you kicked up a fuss and got your meal for free or something.

People should always complain about things like this. If I'm running a business, I want to know if my employees are endangering my business. There's a huge pool of unemployed to choose from, so I'm confident I can find someone else much better. Even if I have a good relationship with the employee, at the very least I'd want to know so can I tell this employee in clear terms that the behavior won't be tolerated.

And I wish tipping would go away

Sure, I get that. Obviously she was not able to take a moment to deal with being bitched at before returning to her tables, not that I'm sympathizing with her. Truth is, most people are not suited for waiting/customer service jobs but they're the easiest to get because they pay so little and there make up such a huge part of the workforce.
