Im not saying its ok to spank your kids because you've had to much to drink or had a bad day at work and need to vent. No, just when it gets to the point where they fail to grasp their place in the heirarchy of things. For thousands of years we also didn't invent anything faster than riding a horse. If you can't get your kid to listen to you, especially after all that, I think you need advice from someone more qualified.

Not spanking hasn't been proven to produce better behavior. (Even though it would be very difficult to measure) It seems to me children are getting more and more disobedient and selfish as spanking and more traditional parenting fades away. I'd love to read more about this subject though.

 Re: America, WTF?!
I am absolutely going to spank my children (if I ever carry any to term) if they're assholic little douchebags. I don't think anything is wrong with spanking whatsoever (by parents, not at school. That isn't cool). Some children need it.
I probably shouldn't (and likely won't) have children. I'm annoyed easily.

Parents should try to find a way to make their children behave without resorting to physical violence.

You're the reason why there are emo kids and little punks in the world. It's because kids aren't brought up to know, when you do something wrong, you'll regret it. Exacto. Kids need to learn that there are consequences to actions and that is not happening as much at present or at least that is how it seems.

If you compared kids now... to kids even just 20+ years ago, you'd see a HUGE difference in the way they act... because kids 20+ years ago actually had PUNISHMENT.
What is the punishment now? No cell phone? No dessert? Whoop dee doo.

No, just when it gets to the point where they fail to grasp their place in the heirarchy of things. IMO that's lousy parenting. Parents should try to find a way to make their children behave without resorting to physical violence.Look, Im not advocating that anyone constantly spank/beat their child. All it usually takes is one good spanking early on to get the kid to learn their place. So the next time they misbehave the mere threat of a spanking will sufice. Im also not advocating spanking them to the point of injury or bruising, or for sport. If your only means of dicipine is corporal punishment then yes I'd agree on finding another way or seeking professional help. Spanking is a last resort option. From personal experience, I knew it was difficult for my parents to spank me when I did wrong, but I'll admit my behavior warranted it. When spanking me or my sister they never used anything other than an open faced hand to the bottom and only hit hard enough to get the point across. It's not like they beat us mercilously or anything and I feel that we turned out as normal as anyone else.

Apparantly kids now have rights to take their parents to court because they dont like to be grounded.Im not advocating physical punishment like a slap in the face but I dont think theres anything wrong with spanking once in a while. They do that alot in other industrialized countries and private schools

School corporal punishment is still allowed in 19 U.S. states.
