I hate everyone who bashes Virginia. I've lived here my entire life and I will not stand for it!

 Re: Bored at work...
California is the only choice for 'best state'. Our beaches are better.
Maryland actually kinda sucks. But probably shouldn't be as low as #30. Crab cakes?!
Arizona and Florida are the worst states. And as cool as Utah is, it's also home to so many white supremacists, Mormons, and meth addicts. Seriously -- I think more people in Utah use meth than pot. So I disagree with the rank there.

 Re: Bored at work...
I used to fly over "Delmarva" everyday for almost 4 months. It's downright scary the stuff you can't see from normal roads. I would go so far as to say Delaware is the filthiest state in the entire country. It's not that virginia is bad, it's just boring. Take 13 S for a couple 100 miles and you'll see 2 churches for every mile. TCM could have just as easily taken place in Virginia. The NASA base is cool though, but they don't really launch from there anymore. MD is like that too, but they at least have Baltimore, OC, and a few other cool places.
Still, they are not the worst places in the country I've ever been too.

 Re: Bored at work...
Just the summer is bad in AZ. And the people. But everything else is almost perfect.

Driving through Virginia is a lot more enjoyable when you've had to endure the mind-numbing boredom of driving through Connecticut, the traffic in NYC, the putrid smell of the entire Jersey Turnpike, and the sheer pointlessness of Delaware in making your way there. I do not miss that drive.

 Re: Bored at work...
The worst was when I ended up getting lost in this sketchy part of Baltimore at 2:00 AM trying to find something to eat.

The Android GPS sent us through sketchy Baltimore too at 10 pm at night on our way to NJ last year (all because I wanted to avoid toll fees). I seriously thought about driving through the red lights. I have lived near Charlottesville for 5 years now. C-ville is pretty good ... but that's about it. Most of the youth in the area try to get to DC or somewhere else. I sure miss Colorado though.

Just curious as to what you consider as the major states. New York California Texas Illinois Florida Pennsylvania Ohio Virginia I guess. Obviously Hawaii/Alaska are iconic but keeping it mainland. You forgot Kansas, it is easily one of the top three or four most famous states in the union due to how often the state is used in fiction. Superman said himself, he's from Kansas, how more American can you get?

I went to UVA I am actually going there now as well. That wasn't the original reason I moved to the area, but since the company I am working for is paying for a master's degree I might as well. Great school and great community. But really, there's not much outside of C-ville (though there is some nice stuff to do in C-ville). The first time I visited the area I had to drive over the "mountain pass" on RT-33. I remember when I starting going up the mountain and before I knew I was at the top. I thought, "That was it? Where's the rest of the mountain?" Got too used to the Colorado mountains I suppose.
