I think their dominance in the SB game is somewhat glossing over the fact that they weren't dominant against San Fran. They held them under 17 pts which is very good but they weren't dominant.

Ravens D and Bears D dominated all their playoff games.

Well, the niners would have rolled the broncos too, no doubt about it.

That is more of a fluke given how well the two teams know each other. Remember when they first faced off last year and Seattle DESTROYED them?

I knew this would be a repeat. Most of the times, the defense is trying to figure out the offense. But against Seattle, the offense is always trying to figure out the defense.

I think Cliff Avril should have gotten MVP. He destroyed Orlando Franklin, put enough pressure on Manning to cause two picks, and the safety is credited to him.
I think the top 5 players last night were: 1) Cliff Avril 2) Malcolm Smith 3) Kam Chancellor 4) Russell Wilson 5) Percy Harvin. Kearse, Baldwin, and Marshawn Lynch also had their moments.
As far as Denver goes, my ranking of who sucked the most: 1) Orlando Franklin and the entire O-line which was run over 2) Peyton Manning...can't remember the last time he threw so terribly. 3) Denver's secondary. I think they forgot how to tackle. Also, Manny Ramirez's first snap...jesus. Awful game that will affect Peyton's legacy for sure. 12-13 in the playoffs for a guy who's won 5 MVP's....

I think the late 80 Niner teams had a better offense than the Broncos, you have Montana, Rice, a great OL, Taylor (very underrated WR), Roger Craig (a great all purpose RB), and a few other great parts. And then you had the old rules. If today's rules were around back then Montana and the Niners would have destroyed those records.

The change of rules is matched by increased talent. Jerry Rice would not be early as effective today as he was in the 1980s,.

I was talking about NFL having these current rules int he 80s. Still, if you don't think Jerry Rice is not the greatest WR ever you are crazy. I saw him play he was amazing, there hasn't been a WR since better than him.

Jerry Rice's game does not translate that well to this era where defensive backs are much faster than in the 1980s or 1990s, Deion and Darrell Green withstanding.

Rice would be a very good player, sure. But if you ignore his pedigree and simply compare his skills, I don't think any scout in their right mind would take him over prime Moss, Owens, Harrison, Calvin, or even AJ Green.

Rice is better than all of them. Speed is overrated, Rice was the best route runner and had the best hands. Most of those guys you named still drop a lot of balls (Calvin Johnson to name one). Rice also played in an era where dbs could hit the WR more, so he had huge disadvantages to those guys. There is a reason Rice is going to own the WR records for decades.

Because he played longer than everybody else. Is Brett Favre the greatest QB ever? No. Does he own every stat record for QBs? Yep. The single season ones are more important, and Rice has lost every one he held. Moss has touchdowns, Calvin yards, Harrison catches, etc.

Rice on his best day was not a better wide receiver than Randy Moss on his best day. He was comparable to other guys, but he was not on the level of a young Randy Moss. Anyone who disagrees is simply being biased. Rice's skills can't compete with Randy Moss's once in a life time skill combination.

Owens was much stronger and more physical and would have utterly dominated the era in which Rice played. Owens had Calvin strength but was much quicker with similar top speed. He was not Moss like fast but he nearly made up for it with his freakish strength. Owens hands and ball skills <<<< Rice/Moss, but I would take him over Rice in the modern era simply because athleticism at the position is so critical.

Thank you Chip, and stop saying the dbs sucked or something in the 80s. Deion and Green are better than most every corner playing today and Rice ate those two up.

I would pick Montana, but I am biased because he was my idol. I would argue, though he was a great regular season QB who threw for over 40 thousand yards, and that is considering he missed 3 whole seasons because of fluke injuries, along with two shorted seasons because of strikes. He then won 4 SBs and has the best QB numbers in the SB with a near perfect rating, throwing no INTs. He also has the most SB MVP with 3.

The argument used to say Jerry Rice is number one clearly says Favre is number one.

Which of course he isnt. The line of reasoning is extremely flawed.

No it's not, you dumbass.

You're comparing a WR to a QB. Both are judged completely different. WR's are judged by stats, longevity, reliability, ability.

A QB is judged by so much more. Montana didn't have the greatest ability, nor did he have the best stats. But most people consider him the #1 or #2 QB of all time. Because of wins, managing games, winning, championships.

A WR doesn't have to win a championship or even be on good teams to be considered great.

Don't be fucking stupid.

You have downs.

Rice's "Longevity", along with spending his time with Montana and Young under the WCO, are the reason for his stat supremacy.

None of those trump the talent differential.

There are hundreds of "talented" players that have never even made it to the NFL. Rice is the GOAT. And only Megatron can replace him, if he can somehow keep up his current pace.

Just look at the stats, bro.

Talent only takes you so far. You can get away with it in high school and most of college. But just talent won't get you shit in the NFL.
