I wonder how hard Bettman is gonna work to ensure a NY/LA final.

But that would be a conflict of interest.

True.

If the Coyotes win, does Bettman congratulate himself?

There are only 2 scenarios that will happen if Phoenix wins the SC.

First: Right after the Coyotes win, he along with some shady men in suits runs away with the Stanley Cup under the guise of some bullshit excuse like security reasons. Then they all flee to Mexico or some place that doesn't have an extradition treaty with the US.

Second: After the Coyotes win, he raises the Cup on the ice and kisses it and does congratulate himself in his self-aggrandizing speech only to punch Phoenix in the face and announce their relocation to Quebec City.

But I have a more pressing issue: Does this mean Bettman would have his name engraved on the Cup if they win?

Nashville needs to find a way to slow these games down. Phoenix is the fastest "boring" team ever

The fact we're even talking about Nashville and Phoenix depresses me.

Maybe the less ice time for Ovie is motivating him more.

They deserve to be. They were better than their respective 1st round teams. Chicago was lucky to win game 2 and even be in the series in the first place and Nashville kind of dominated Detroit.

No doubt, but still... from a hockey fan's standpoint, Nashville and Phoenix? Just seems weird.

Fun SC facts:

New York Rangers: 4 cups (last in 1994)
Washington Capitals: 0 cups
New Jersey Devils: 3 cups (last in 2003)
Philadelphia Flyers: 2 cups (last in 1975)

St Louis Blues: 0
Nashville Predator: 0
Phoenix Coyotes: 0
Los Angeles Kings: 0

Lots of big chances for a first time SC win.

Jesus.

From my limited standpoint, The Caps looked like the team with more potential and energy. But Lundqvist is insane, the Caps got sloppy in 2OT, and gave it up in 3OT.

I don't think I could have forgiven Green if NY scored on that penalty. I've been saying it for years, but he's totally a 'what if' player at this stage -- and he does stupid shit all the time. I don't think the threat of his 40-pt-a-season LT potential is worth his defensive flubs. Would rather have someone marginally better at D at 1/3 the price.

And this is the third time in four years that I'm digging our new goalie but christ Holtby is promising. Keep your head up, chappy.

And the Kings have as much potential to be LA's fav (next to the Lakers) as the Clippers or Dodgers. Baseball is still a tough sell at an eerie venue. And Sterling is a creep -- so few are really adopting the team as, say, New Yorkers adopted the Mets. I mean...hockey is definitely the least favorite now, but I think a deep run will be as exciting to most here as a deep Clippers run.

At least I hope. Hockey is the perfect spectator sport...and Donald Sterling is a douchenozzle.

Barley doesn't move much.

But they could also barely move.

I can't tell if the Flyers are worn out or if the Devils are actually good.

Good.

And by bad, I mean good.

I say their run will mimic Montreal from two years ago. They pushed their first two series to seven games though, but I think LA will run into trouble in the CFs.

I can't see LA having any trouble with Phoenix or Nashville, the way they're playing right now.

Maybe. They might make the SC finals but I still don't think they'll take the Cup. Something's gotta give.

If LA wins can we get rid of the NHL regular season? Home ice obviously means nothing. One monster tournament would be awesome.

It would be fitting if the SC finals were the Caps and the Kings. Two unlikely teams that knocked out all the seasonal heavyweights.

Post subject:  Re: NHL 2011-12 Season

caps aren't making the finals

don't know if they are really 'unlikely' as even with the poor season and continued playoff fuckery since 07 (?), the lineup is still voiewed as a threat.

Post subject:  Re: NHL 2011-12 Season

oh, I believe

I'm avoiding jinxing the run by not wearing my caps hat, which I normally do during playoff season and it always results in an earlier than anticipated exit

Besides...I want that LA vs DC final so I can watch the games. God forbid you put hockey on in a bar under other circumstances. Ppl here would rather watch soccer...it's pathetic

So much for that Kings/Blues series being close.

Post subject:  Re: NHL 2011-12 Season

I feel something's different for the Caps this year. They've squandered so much in the last few seasons. I remember how huge it was when the Caps met the Pens in '09, and how everyone said the Caps would pull it off. Then the next two seasons, they had huge seasons. So it would make sense that playing crap all year and barely making it would result in a Cup run.
