Re: NHL 2011-12 Season
I want to believe this is a 'must-win' game because of how it would shake momentum.
The first four games had plenty of opportunities for both teams. You could make a case for bad reffing working against the Rangers in their losses and working against the Caps in their losses. The series *could* be over.
A one-game advantage in a close series (c'mon...the remaining games will be decided by a goal) could do wonders for morale. It doesn't allow them to get caught up in the game's nuances (would-be powerplays, bad penalties, deflections, the crowd at MSG, whatever).

Re: NHL 2011-12 Season
Same old fucking team.
This is why a win would've been nice. Now we have an uphill struggle.
We were outplayed the whole game. The defense minded strategy didn't work. No excuse for us to have to block 20 shots a game and still subject our rookie to 40 shots.

That's got to be the worst playoff penalty in some time.

Re: NHL 2011-12 Season
I'm no sports junkie...but is there any team as frustrating to watch come playoffs season? The Caps always have so much potential -- and do 'enough' to keep fans engaged and interested -- and then throw it away.
This is a total repeat of 2009. Or it's a repeat of 2010. Either way, it's going to be painful. We'll win decisively Wednesday and sleep in Saturday -- or we'll sleep in Wednesday.

The Sharks are like the Capitals of the west. Picked year after year to win the Cup, or at least make the finals, and still haven't been there.

Re: NHL 2011-12 Season
also, i'm tots buying kings tickets tomorrow.
believe it or not, the presale price range for kings tickets is ABOVE prices for lakers or clippers. if you sign on at the right time, you can buy lakers/clippers tickets for under $100. maybe because the kings are in the conference finals? idk.
still, it is going to rape my wallet.

I'm just glad the Flyers are gone.
The Pens = 3 cups since 1991. The Flyers = 0 cups since 1976.

Re: NHL 2011-12 Season
Brodeur has better regular season numbers because he played in an era where the scoring was much lower. If you compare Roy's numbers (specifically save % and goals-against-average) to the average during the time he played, he's better than Brodeur.
Now, Brodeur has many more regular season wins and shutouts than Roy. But that's, again, a byproduct of playing for a very defensively-minded New Jersey team all those years. Roy didn't have that luxury.

Re: NHL 2011-12 Season
You give up too easily.
I won't deny that Brodeur is a top five goalie of all time (with Roy, Hasek, Plante, Sawchuk). But I think Roy was just more dominant while he played.
