First of all, Florida and Tampa Bay being in the same division as Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal/Boston/Buffalo makes little to no sense. Also, teams like Winnipeg will play Vancouver/Calgary/Edmonton as many times as they play any team out East.
I think they should've stuck with the same format and just swapped Winnipeg and Nashville. Either that or return to the old system (two conferences, two divisions in each). Four conferences is just weird. I do like that every team plays every other team twice, but there has to be other ways to accomplish this.
On the bright side, at least this means the Oilers will only lose to the Wild twice a year instead of six times a year.

Re: NHL 2011-12 Season Well, they had unfair divisions for years. But yeah, I'd be okay with just getting rid of Phoenix and, say, Florida. Then Detroit can move to the Boston/Montreal division and Tampa can move to the New York division. Or something.
The focus on division rivalries really brings it back to the '80s when they had divisional semifinals and finals in the playoffs. Which is only a good thing. I wonder if they're gonna bring back the old names as well (Adams/Norris/Smythe/Patrick).
