It's really confusing why Bouchard is just doing terrible after the Australian Open. I want her great game from last year to come back (and to also have her hotness in more than just one round).

Nobody cares about these chumps. Speaking of folks in slup..."Halep"...

The real story is to be in awe of a living tennis legend still playing pro tennis and winning!

Long Live Serena!

Serena Williams played a fantastic match against Victoria Azarenka Tuesday. It was a very close and high quality match. It was a pleasure to watch them go toe to toe but I was glad that Serena was able to pull through in the end.

Next up...Maria Sharapova. USA Today had a maybe serious half tongue n cheek article about predicting her to finally end the losing streak against Serena. Um, I have my doubts. Serena should make that final. I'd rather her play Radwanska than Muguruza.

And Another One Bites the Dust

Poor Maria. She's never going to beat Serena again. She just needs to get to #2 so she can try to make the final and earn that finalist money because it just isn't happening. Maybe she needs to get a hypnotist involved so they can make her forget who Serena is just before she goes on court.

As for Muguruza, she scares me. I was hoping Radwanska would win but she couldn't deal with her power. Luckily for Serena, her shock loss to Muguruza at the FO helped to wake her up and become focused again. I think Serena's serve and aura of champion will propel her to victory in a close two or three sets. Can't let no #20 player win a Major.

Serena's been amazing. She had some setbacks that could have put her out of the running at times, but she came back better each time. In her 30's she just whoops every challenger of the court. I'm rooting for her to win the Open.

Well Fed is not winning another major. History has shown it. His age barrier has shown it and he can't beat Djokovic here which is the best surface for him to try to win a major.

As for Novak he's at 9 majors now but he isn't catching Federer because he loses to players like Wawrinka and his major finals record is bad. He's 28 so he has two years left realistically to win majors. I think he can get to Nadal though possibly or come up one or two short.

Regardless, Federer is still the greatest of all times.

For Djokovic's chances to catch Federer 1 US Open at this point is far too little if he was going to be at 0 at French. Also at some point a young future #1 who can take these guys has to show up

4th round for Genie and best her game has looked since 2014 Wimbledon! Made 4th round at 2014 US Open and QF at Australian but unimpressively both times

And Serena just lost a 1st set...

If anyone is stopping Serena I think Madison keys has the best chance now. She's pushed her a couple times before and has no fear. Madison also can handle Serena's power. It won't be a cake walk but should Serena win I think the grand slam will fall in her hands.

If Kvitova is on enough to make the Finals she could hit big and be a problem. Azarenka has had her chances against Serena and can't pull it off. Halep would have no chance

Serena is victorious again. She was quite focused and determined. Handled keys quite well and let her make the unforced errors.

Next up...Venus

Serena will obviously win this

Post subject:  Re: The Tennis Thread

This was depressing for any Serena fan.

Well, clearly after that first set she began showing nerves early in the second. At the same time Roberta Vinci was raising her game. Serena began making unforced errors all over the place and struggling on her service games while Roberta's were relatively easy holds.

That final set started off well at 2-0 early break for Serena but then on her serve she goes and just played loose and got broken. When it became 3-3 and on Serena's serve I just knew that was an absolute must hold to put any sort of pressure on Roberta who was playing so confidently and just all over the court and handling any of Serena's big serve save for Serena's last service game.

Ugh, it's just a missed opportunity especially with a player she hasn't lost to in either the Semis or Finals until today.

As for Roberta, her post match interview was a delight. I am happy for her of course. Can't dwell on Serena's loss though I think she will catch Steffi sometime in the next two years. Back to Roberta, I think I'll be rooting for her tomorrow over her countrywoman. All Italian Final. That's an achievement.

I'm happy that Steffi Graf will stand as the last one to win the Grand Slam. She won her 22 Grand Slam Titles in just 17 years as a professional. Serena is already in her 20th. She may end up with more Grand Slam Titles but Steffi still has the better career
