Anne Hathaway to play Catwoman

Anne Hathaway has signed on to play the role of Selina Kyle in the upcoming film The Dark Knight Rises. Selina Kyle is better known for her alter ego: Catwoman.

In addition to Hathaway's casting announcement, Warner Bros also announced that Tom Hardy would join the cast as the villain Bane.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story," director Christopher Nolan said in a statement. He went on to add: "I am [also] delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman's most formidable enemies."

The film marks the third, and likely final, entry in Nolan's Batman trilogy and is set to release on July 20th, 2012.

Mmm. Drink it in, news as fine as this always goes down smooth. Anne can be my pussy cat any time. Don't like it? You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a third the size of us. It's science. The rest of us like it.

For the entire Channel 4 news team, I'm Ron Burgundy. Go fuck yourself, WoKJ.

I don't know. Anne Hathaway is a great actress, but imagining her in this role is difficult.

She brought some of the crazy in Love and Other Drugs...I'll think she'll do a good job. Plus she's hot...that doesn't hurt.

Hot and a cool, down-to-earth actress to boot. I'll be interested to see what direction Nolan takes the catwoman character, whether he paints her as a Burton-esque crazy woman or a more level-headed, comic-derived woman on a mission. Will her role take the spotlight from Rachel Dawes' char??? I kind of hope so.

I would have preferred Rachel Weisz or Keira Knightley. But we'll see--other than Katie Holmes, Nolan's eye for casting has proven quite impeccable.
